Was Kodi thinking of this..........when he saved Balto from going off the cliff?

Yes, that is probably what the filmmakers intended, given its similarity, but we really do not know for sure. Perhaps it represents Kodi finally taking responsibility, and becoming just like his father.

You know, I never really thought of that. It is a great find. I wouldn't say Kodi was thinking back to that scene and more of saving his father and Duke from their fall to death.

I don't think that he, at the moment, was thinking about it, but the writers wanted to show as if he was retruning the favor

I think Kodi was just glad that he came in time to say Balto, and was relieve that his father was ok. Anyways good find I never thought of that.

I pondered about these scenes a lot.
I believe that the film was trying to send across a similarity message between Balto and Kodi, sort of like the saying: "Like Father, Like Son." After all, Kodi did say he wanted to be like his dad.
