You know how the first and last few minutes of Balto 1 are live action, right? Is the animated story of Balto Grandma Rosy telling the tale to her granddaughter, or is it just a bunch of animation that sort of came out of nowhere between two brief live action scenes?

I highly doubt Rosy would have known about Steele framing Balto for stealing the sausages, Balto's fight with the bear, Steele attacking Balto for wanting to bring the medicine to Nome, etc.

Of course she told her granddaughter about Balto leading the sled dogs to Nome, but did she tell her about things like Steele, Muk, Luk, and the bear fight?

^So the parts that Rosy most likely wasn't aware of must have been things that came out of nowhere.

(Love your Bambi banner! )

Well, I have to say, it would be a pretty boring movie if it was only what Grandma Rosy saw.

If the old lady was telling the story the whole way though, there would have been intervals of her narration spread about the movie. This is the case for most narrative films. (Titanic, Princess Bride, et cetera...)

She narrates a bit in the beginning, then a little at the end. Nowhere in between is her voice heard. She doesn't tell the story that you actually watch. That's why you see all the stuff the humans were missing. (Polar bears, stealing sausages, innuendo, and awesome bear fights.)

my opinion is that the movie is supposed to be "as told by Grandma Rosy", even though she did very little narration. As for the bear scene etc she made them up to make the story more interesting for her granddaughter. At Least that's how I see it

Yes she did tell the entire story. As for the parts that she couldn't have known, remember who she is telling that story to...She may have invented all of the parts that were "missing"; which would also explain why the real story is different from the animated one.

I also like what Steet and Sheba Dove said, but I can't imagine a parent or grandparent incorporating fictional things while telling his/her child about a historical event. Maybe I've lived under a rock for too long.

Neither in the Titanic Rose know that Mr. murdoch did what he did, the people in the engine rooms did Exc. Sotry's are like that - It's what gives them adventure.
