So - I'm considering buying myself an Xbox360, but I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about any games they'd like to share. I'd love to hear some recommendations.

Personally, I'm thinking about Assassin's Creed, though would that be a game worth buying?

I can't really tell you a whole lot about game for the 360 as the one we have is my brother's and I mostly play Wii and DS, but I do have some choice game if you're willing to hear me out.

The Orange Box
There's do doubt in my mind that you've at least heard of this game. Well, 5 games to be right.
It has Portal, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, and Half Life 2 Episode 2. If my gaming history is correct all of the Half Life series have been incredible FPS games.
My experience with The Orange Box has been only focused on Portal, which to me is the biggest star of the five games.
The biggest plus is just the fact that this is really five different games for the price of one. That's a great deal. Especially if you're just getting a 360.

BioShock
This might seem a little odd sounding but I have yet to play this game for myself. Despite that though I've seen my friends and my brother play a ton of this game that I can go on recommend it. It's a survival horror FPS game, same as the Resident Evil series. I can't really say anything technical about the game... but it didn't win Game of the Year for being crappy, that's for sure. If you're in to that sort games check it out.

Call of Duty 4
I know I may sound redundant for bringing in another FPS game (which really, it can't be helped, the 360 is known for it's FPS games) but this one is probably the most realistic shooting game on the current market. Not really much I can say on the technical side of the game because I've only played few multiplayer matches with my brother. As is the case with BioShock, I've seen enough to say a small opinion about this game. One of the main reasons I like this game is that it will make you face some crazy wartime mental, tactical, and reflex challenges in the single player mode. And with the fact that one to three shots can kill you, it's really an adrenalin educing game. A real fun one, too.

Well, it's a start. There are some more games I can talk about if you need more ideas. I'll leave with this for now.

My quick suggestions:

Forza Motorsports 2
If you love simulation racing games. Basically unlimited customization options for performance, tuning, and appearance, it makes waiting for Forza 3 impossible. Realistic damage, cornering, physics, and the best sound quality for racing cars, tire friction on the road, and engine performance. By far this was my most favorite game on XBOX360. I completed everything 100%, and then did it again.

Call of Duty 4
The best FPS shooter on XBOX360 (because Halo 3 blows, and I'm well serious). Online multiplayer is it's strong point, so you better be getting XBOX Live, but its campaign is good too- with a strong introductory chapter. If you want to shoot people and actually have more fun than shouting profanity at children on XBOX Live half the age allowed to play M-rated games who shout like idiots, then get CoD4 over Halo.

Of course, you can also pick up other multi-platform games like Guitar Hero III, GTA:IV, or Rock Band for some entertainment as well.

I actually had more fun playing Halo 3 online than CoD4. It was fun for a while, but then it turned into a camp-fest with just as many foul-mouthed twelve year olds as any other popular shooter on XBL.

Anyway, besides those two games mentioned, I would definitely recommend Mass Effect. You'll only probably get about a twentieth of this game's depth the first time through.

Orange box. Oh god no doubt. Playing through Half Life 2 and it's episodes back to back is truly an experience. If you ever get tired of those (possible?), then you've got Portal. It's only about a four hour game, but it's got surprising replay value. It also includes Team Fortress 2 for your online needs (which is better than the multiplayer on both Halo 3 AND CoD4).

Bioshock. JUST GET IT!!!

Devil May Cry 4. Absolutely insane action game with more depth to its combat system than any other two games combined.

Assassin's Creed may be worth a rental, but it gets repetitive much too fast, and then all the bugs start to become more and more obvious.

Well, most of the games I was going to suggest have already been mentioned, but I'd like to add one more:

Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold Edition. Get the Gold edition, and you'll get all the extra characters that you'd have to purchase off Xbox Live with the regular edition. It's really awesome, as you get to play as pretty much any Marvel comic superhero! And it's really fun, and epic.

Gears of War pretty much sold the 360 and it's a good game to waste away the hours on, get it before Gears of War 2 comes out as well. Although in my opinion if you have a decent computer I suggest getting FPS'ers for that instead of the 360 as FPS games are nearly always better (handling wise) for computers then they are consoles (Halo being the exception.) So games like Bioshock, DOOM3 and CoD4 are better on computer, although I have got CoD4 on my 360 :)
