"Based off". Meaning they used Kiara's personality as a base BUT changed it around a bit to suit their own need.

Well of course, if it truly did happen, they would never admit it - Disney would go King Kong on their sorry behind. I just see too many similarities for it to be a co-incidence.

Although there are similarities there are also big differences aswell.

Aleu ran away from her family to "discover herself" and find her own place in the world. Kiara ran off because her father stopped her seeing Kovu and banished him.
Aleu was stubborn in everything while Kiara was stubborn and a 'free spirit' you got the feeling she'd be willing to talk it out with her parents rather than just go against it which is more what Aleu would do.
Aleu wasn't that close to her dad and you got the feeling she would've been closer to Jenna (if they'd shown more of that part of her life) while Kiara was very close to Simba and although she fell out with him she remained close.
Kiara had Kovu as a love interest, that was her main storyline while Aleu had no love interest at all

So while I agree they're similar I don't think Aleu was really based on Kiara that much. In all honesty, how many movies have a teenage girl who falls out with her father and is really stubborn? Loads.

After Kiara ran away from her father,she shouted this at him.

Kiara:You will never be Mufasa!

In short,Kiara,and Aleu are NOT the same,but as a female lion cub,and as a wolf pup/cub,they did both see a butterfly.(just like Bambi did when he was a fawn)
