Hello everyone, this is a suggestion about our word censoring, now if you say a swear word it would come up something like "****" or "********" as we all know. But how about one for SMS, I tried it on my phpBB3Now! forum, and it worked. All you need to add is things like:

Quote:
Word: c
Replacement: See

Or something like that. It could be very usful for memebrs trying to read a text with SMS in it.

I personally don't find this idea any good. Such a system is unreliable, and will most likely end up censoring words like "censor" into "seeensor" lol.

Though I got no experience with PhPBB forums yet ;] Still learning.

Actually, I have tried it on my forum, unless you put a "*" on the admin panel, it will only cencor that exact word, it's like steet, when he types in a cencored word, he writes "*enter a 4 letterd swear word here*" Than adds a "*" after witch anything with that word in it will be blocked, without it, it would just be if the letter/word is on it's own.

Ah; interesting to know. In that case, I do believe this could be a good idea. But it could also promote SMS writing on the forum because members would know they would get away from it by default.

I wouldn't want to promote something negative ^^

Witch is why mods could de-activate the word censoring for themselves, so they would know whom is doing it, it just wont show up for the other members hom have word censoring activated.

No, I would consider this too much...WAY too much. It's not that hard to ask people to stop and if they don't, they end up getting banned. I think the rule of no SMS is enough.

I mean censoring...? It's not like offensive...Just ask them to stop.

When I say censoring, I mean where it automaticly corrects it.

Like Luxy said, it only encourages people not to bother typing properly. All people who use SMS can read and they can see the rule and the pages explaining SMS they just choose not to pay attention to it. Having a censor system that does their spelling for them is kinda pointless.

Well... Like I said, for people whom have dis-abled this action on there UCP will be able to see these comments, and thats how Mods could warn them, but I was thinking only SMS like "c, u, y, yr" Exc.

Agreed...That's another reason why I think we shouldn't censor it...It's just more proof that they didn't read the rules.

And also, if it's just for a few things like, "C" and stuff, it's even more pointless...Again, it's just so much simpler to warn them a few times and then ban. It's not that difficult to to type correctly, read the rules or listen to what someone is telling you (To stop using sms).

Yes, I would prefer that the visitors learn to write in a proper way.
What I will add (one day I hope...) is a SMS detector, so that if a message is detected as being SMS, it won't be posted! This will force them to make some efforts when writing.

That would be much better than correcting it for them. Good luck with it Steet.
