Maybe because deleting message at the middle or beginning of a topic make the topic itself difficult or impossible to understand? And also because a topic may interest other people, even if you think it's "old". But I didn't choose these settings, these are phpBB defaults. I don't know how much we can change that. Although I think it's fine the way it is.

I agree to a certain extent. Sometimes you post a comment when your feeling a bit... different, odd, moody, hypo, whatever... and then a couple of days later when your back to normal you look at it and think;
"Wow, why on Earth did I type that?" OR "Uh oh, I think now that this could offend someone, luckily it hasn't already."
But I also disagree because when someone replies or quotes... and your post isn't there, it can confuse readers.
But, I am again for it because after a member is deleted and has been gone a while their post disappears... or something makes it disappear because I've seen topics with no starting post, and missing quoted posts and the like... so there.
I'm just having a little debate with myself, okay?

Everyone gets a little funny sometimes and posts something they later wish not to be seen again. That is everyone's responsibility and they must carry the consequences. It would be unfair to everyone who reads it, that it would suddenly disappear. It would not change a thing... You must realize that you live in a conscious world, and act accordingly. Also, whether good or not so good, it would disturb the discussion, for when others read it they wouldn't be able to make sense of it. Yet again, more havock because of someone's 'funny' time.
