Here's a suggestion, if a member thinks there topic has done enough or somthing, them to be able to Lock there own topics? Because whilst I was searching 'Permissions' on my forum, and I found member could lock there own topics, so how dose this sound?

Well even though its a nice idea 95% of the people will not use the locking option. Majority of the times as you seem Mods lock the topic feeling its unapporiate or in the wrong area the members wouldnt. Also another issue is that members will be reluctant to lock their topics saying its nothing wrong and a whole argument could start with the mods which the mods will eventually have to lock the topics themselves so not really a point if no ones gonna use it

Er...no.
Aside from what Mo already said most members would abuse this feature and lock their own topics with no reason to do so or just because they don't want more people to post (e.g. a requests topic where they don't want more requests).

Most topics just naturally 'die' anyway so there's no need to lock them and if a fight etc. starts in a topic a mod will lock it.

mkay...If you create a lock topic there will be so much spam like no other. So i say no to the lock topic, what would be the point of mods then? If you create a lock topic? See thats what mods are for ;)

Whitewolf: Um, actually, Mods will still come in handy, because in flaim wars, mabe the OP is one the one starting the flaim.. Still, i'm not saying i'm 100% with this, it's a suggestion, but still, say a topic in the Rant board, if the topic has been solved, than the member may be able to lock the topic, himself, but i'm not sure if this will give Mod panel rights to members, but still I feel it's a 50-50 too me.

But still, the younger members who dont really know how to run a forum, will make a topic. Then deside wait i dont like that lock it, then make another one. Then another person would do that, until you come to the page and see mostly locked topics. To me that just looks messy and unorganized.

Weeell...if they could lock it, wouldn't they be able to unlock it?...If so, it definately would not work. People would lock and unlock their topics...When they should remain locked.

Seriously, whether it has the option or not, it's a bad idea.

I do remember this being a suggestiong before...quite a long while ago and it was decided against it then too.
If we allow members to lock their own topics we might aswell just not have proper mods. If members are allowed to lock topics they'd soon start asking why they can't move topics aswell and that's what mods are for.
Also, I am pretty much sure it would cause confusion, arguments and another big mess, which we don't want or need.

Agreed. I mean, alot of the members here are definately NOT mature enough to know when to lock a topic...or why.

As for the fights part you mentioned...Yeah, I can definately see that one comming...Anyway, the most of the mods do their job very well and actively, so, there's no need to risk having fights and flames.

I don't like the idea.
Moderators are already locking topics too often to my taste, I don't want to see good topics being locked just because the author think it's enough, when there can be more to say about the topic.
