Chocolate is bad for your dog.
For human, chocolate is one of the most delicious food and human almost has no problem with it. But, for your dog, chocolate is very dangerous.
Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine. This theobromine is poisonous for your dog. Many people underestimate it and keep giving chocolate as snack to their dog. They usually said, “My dog is get used to eat chocolate and there is no problem happen”. The fact is, every year, especially in USA, there are many reports of mortality that caused by chocolate.
Dog who get poisoned by chocolate will get a painful stomachache and usually the dog will get intestinal disorder with blood vomiting. The vomit itself smells like chocolate. And then the dog will produce too much saliva, anxious, and difficult to stand up and walk because his body is stiff. Thirst will increase and dog will drink much water until he vomit again.
If the dog didn’t get a quick first aid, his condition will decrease into a serious condition, such as increasing respiration rate, muscle cramp, stiff body, gum turn blue, convulsive, and finally the dog will dead.
There is no medicine that can neutralize the poison of the chocolate. Dog usually will get intravenous feeding and oxygen to keep the dog survive until the effect of chocolate poison gets neutralized. So, you already know the dangerous of chocolate and you should not give it to your dog. Besides, chocolate is made not to be shared.
For those of you who might don't know about this, I hope this will help you. And I'm sorry with my English. Translated it from a book I bought XP

Chocolate is dangerous for all kinds of animals, not just dogs. If only more people took the time to read such books, then perhaps they could avoid such disasters.

noblewolf wrote: We all know chocolate is bad for your dog Nope. Not everyone sadly...Though, I wish you were right. One of my closest friends...His grandfather has made a habit of feeding their dog a bar of chocolate every night with coffee. I know he did this with their old dog that passed away the christmas that just passed (not because of the chocolate though, she had lung cancer). I'm not sure if he feeds their new dog chocolate and coffee, but I hope he doesn't... Although, I do KNOW they feed him all their table scraps. Like literally, ALL of the table scraps. They all scrape the left over food from their plates onto one plate and give it to the dog...If they want to do this, whatever. Fine. I wouldn't feed my dog THAT much human food (a piece of cooked meat every now and then is fine), but whatever. I have no control over it...What REALLY bothers me is that their dog will whine, bark, jump and mouth my arm until she gets the food, which is unacceptable. She demands the food, and gets it. That is NOT ok, this makes her think that she is in charge...Which means, she dominates. Which can be potentially dangerous to people.

Yep, chocolate is bad for your dog.
I remember one time my old dog stole a box of chocolate away from me when I wasn't looking. And I put it in a high place too. Nothing happened to her though. But I was woried she'd get sick and she never did. o__O

Yeah, my family members have this bad habit of feeding the dogs chocolate every now and then. x_o Like on their (the dogs') birthdays, or if we just so happen to have a big bar, they're given "just a little piece, it won't hurt them". Makes me so mad, I really don't want to gamble our pets' wellbeing.
Though I'm pretty sure white chocolate is harmless? Unless, of course, given in massive quantities, but humans would get sick from that too!

Yes, it's bad for every animal. I'm just trying to give a clear explanation for this food. That's all ^^

Um.....everyone knows that. But no way would I give my dogs more than a crumb of chocolate. Whenever I'm eating chocolate cake, I make sure that the dogs aren't around...otherwise they'd eat the whole cake! They're pretty sneaky....

well ironically if you start dogs off at eating chocolate (and other unhealthy things to dogs that would kill them) at the puppy age or very young age.. it won't affect the dog much.. but yet if an older dog eats chocolate and it's never eaten it before it would either likely make the dog very sick or even possibly die.. figured that out on some site about dog health and facts. which is quite bad .. cuz it could later bring complications to the dog itself ..
