I've been meaning to do a full crit for Guitar Hero III and Rockband through the guitar point of view. Sorry if I offend anyone or whatnot.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock GH III was expected to be an awesome game, in my opinion...eh. First off the graphics during gameplay suck and the lead singer looks like he had a terrible plastic surgeon. His jaw is like HUGE. The character selection is pretty varied, but nothing there satisfies my tastes. Whats the deal on outfits and styles? They're liek the same. And the title "Legends of Rock" isn't true based on the songs. There's really only ONE legend, Slash. It should be Legend of Rock. As for the songs? I've never heard of some of them. One thing GH 3 has over Rockband is more recent songs, like Stricken, 3's & 7's, Before I Forget, Can't Be Saved, Prayer of the Refugee, Monsters, etc. And I mean I know about 50% of the bands and songs, but some are just so stupid and they suck. The song selection gets a thumbs up from me. But the downsides to it is the expert difficulty is insane. I mean come on, the last four songs are like nearly impossible to beat. It took me about 5 days in practice mode over and over per song. Yet I still can't complete One nor Raining Blood. Heck I actually break a sweat when trying to beat them. There's no fun when it gets that hard. But some of the charts feel like the real guitar, like the chords. Esepcially in 3's & 7's, when you have ot press 3 notes. It feels more like playing the real guitar. And I don't like the face how you can only play certain songs in Co-op career.
Rockband I just got the game itself recently, but I dont have the guitar for Rockband, I used GH 2 guitar, so my gameplay is slightly different then intended. I don't like the face you can't choose your own charcter nor gutiar, etc. No store either? I mean Rockband's graphics sure kicks GH 3's ***. It feels like your just playing songs. Unlike GH 3, where you can go to different places and use different gear, etc. but anywho, song selection isn't that great. Though there's a few good songs. The gameplay is really slow on expert. I beat the whole game in a day on expert. Not enough chords or hammer-ons and pull-offs. And the speed is toooooo slow. And its like the hammer-ons and pull-offs are delayed. But an aspect RB has over GH is the solo part. I think that's really cool and the part at the end where you can just jam out. I don't really like that you can't see how well you did in certain parts of the song, like the intro, chours, etc. And practice mode is just stupid.
That's just my take. In my opinion GH 3 wins over RB. Your opinions?
