Hiyas. I'm thinking of creating a Fanfic (gasp!) but I'm not sure where I should start it.

It's about Kazu and Nina.

Kazu is about 4/16 Alaskan Malamute, about a 3/16 Siberian Husky, 8/16 Shilo Shepherd and 1/16 Grey Wolf. He has two dreams; the first of being a wolf in the wild, and the second of being a lead dog. His mother was a lead dog and his father a wheel dog, so sledding was thick in his blood. But his other dream may not be so unreachable as he thinks...

Nina is a Grey Wolf, and her only friend is Kazu and her owner, Maurice. Other dogs tease her and sometimes attack her for being a wolf, and people are always the first to accuse her when there is word of dog fights or robberies from the butcher. Her family were all shot by hunters, except for her two brothers who ran off into the undergrowth, just like her.


My only problem I'm having is how to include the Balto characters. Aleu's pack could be included, and Jenna, being Kazu's great-auntie, could appear. Or Kodi. And seeing as the story is set in Nome, it may not be so hard to do that. Opinions, please?

I'm going to give you all a short (or long) description of the characters. (Apart from Kazu and Nina) Feel free to ask any of my characters questions, it will help me build their character up.

Penyouta: Penyouta is a shaggy cat (probably used to be white, is now a dusty grey), who subtly helps help Kazu and Nina. He is like a 'Rafiki figure' who helps them understand themselves better. He has an annoying habit of ALWAYS talking in metaphors or clues, and giving very cryptic answers. He's very tall for a cat (nearly the size of a border collie!) and has icy blue eyes, with stars for pupils. If you need a hand, talk to Penyouta! That is, if his constant metaphors and fables don't drive you mad.

Karei: Karei is Kazu's mother and the lead dog in a (racing) sled team. She’s bold, protective, determined, kind-hearted and stubborn, and only wants the best for those she loves. The story has a side-plot of her learning to speak cat, courtesy of Penyouta.

Kudo: Kudo is a Shiloh shepherd, Karei's mate and Kazu's father. His fear of cats adds a comical touch to the fic. Wheel dog.

Shyanne: Ah yes, time to meet the new 'mean character with supportive trio'. Shyanne absolutely despises wolves and is out to get Nina. Her hatred of wolves is most likely due to the fact that her father's whole family were bred to hunt wolves, and so, she sees herself as an heir to the family business. Her father was a purebred Irish Wolfhound, her mother was a Greenland dog, hence she is taller than her mother and more muscular than her father. She won't rest until Nina (and Kazu is a bonus) is out of town for good, or dead.

Thunder: He's very similar to Nikki (personality wise). His brothers make up the rest of the trio. They are all Alaskan Malamute X St Bernards, and although Thunder doesn't have the desire to kill Nina as Shyanne does, he's probably the meanest out of the three.

Jagger: Kaltag-like figure. Being the second-oldest after Thunder, he is a bit scared of Shyanne (but then again, who isn't?!) but makes up for it by constantly complementing her and insulting Nina, even when she isn't there.

Hyde: Similar to Star. He's not really that bad and he doesn't really hate wolves as much as he pretends, but he desperately wants to be 'cool' and constantly hangs around Shyanne and his two brothers. Of course, he's not small, bu he was the runt of the litter.

Lola: Basically Dixie's clone. Gossipy, richly bred fluffball. 'Nuff said.

Tillie: Lola's best friend. Borzoi. Think Sylvie.

Aurora: Beautiful, fluffy, snow white Samoyed. Friends with Lola and Tillie. Think of the unknown dog scene. Kazu has a crush on her.

Uno: Kazu's friend, although he is slightly wary of Nina (he gets creeped out when she howls) he doesn't hate her like every other dog in Nome. He's truly a mixed-breed, as in his blood he has Chinook, Kuvasz, Bernese Mountain dog, Belgian Sheepdog, Canaan Dog and Siberian Husky.

Maurice Samson: Kazu and Nina's owner. Kind hearted.

Johnson Eckersly: Sled racing musher.

Zoro: A muscular, brown and white husky. Most girl dogs have a crush on him.

Okay... this is just a bit of it to get you interested...

This was the first time they were allowed out on the town. By themselves. Nina was absolutely terrified.
"Don't worry, Nina. You have that collar, and that ID tag, don't you? You'll be fine." Kazu said gently, as he took his first steps outside Samson property. But in truth, he couldn't be any more worried about Nina.
There are bad dogs out here. There are even dogs that kill wolves. he tried to shake these thoughts out of his head. If he was scared, how frightened would Nina be?
"This collar might protect me from humans... but... but... dogs couldn't care less!" her voice rang with the fear that Kazu had never seen in her before.
"You know why you're gonna be fine? 'Cause I'm gonna protect you." Kazu knew of only one way of getting the wolf pup out of the door. He clenched Nina's collar in his teeth and pulled so suddenly that Nina tumbled down from the doorstep and into the light layer of snow that was beneath them.
"You are sooo gonna get it now..." said Nina playfully, and she leaped to her feet and threw herself against Kazu. Hence another wrestling match begun. They tumbled all through the streets until they thudded into something big, brown and bushy.

An unfamiliar voice spoke, "Does you knows whose you's just tumbled into? That there... is my broser Thunder."
Kazu and Nina stumbled backwards. The dog that must be Thunder turned around and stared. Kazu knew his dog breeds, and he knew that this dog had to be a St Bernard/Alaskan Malamute cross.
"We... we really, didn't mean to! We were just playing and... we weren't looking..." Nina stammered, as she tried to back away.
"Wait... wait, wait! We gots to tell Shyanne bout dis one!" came another voice, slightly higher than the first.
"Why? It's just anoder one of 'dem mutts." said the first voice.
"But Jagger! Dis one's... dis one's a... dis one's a Lupine!" said the second voice once again.
Thunder wrinkled up his big, leather nose and sniffed.
"Well... waddya' know? Hyde's right... boss'll be very... well, she'll have a reaction. Hyde, you got's to go get Shyanne!" Thunder boomed, and the smaller of the three dogs scampered away.
"What's this? Little Lupine's got a collar..." said the first dog to speak, Jagger. And without warning he leaped at Nina and tore of the bright, green, leather collar that she wore around her neck, and tossed it into the nearby dumpster.
"Wolfdog's shouldn't have collars..." he muttered, and rejoined his brother.
