Ack, I so agree!

This place really has become quite volatile at times =/ People seem to love getting into arguments over nothing especially if two people have a 'friendly' disagreement that they are discussing and some people just HAVE to chime in, take sides and make it a war... -.-

Same goes for the forums, even if a member has posted a topic in the wrong section it only needs 1 member to politely remind them and report the topic to the mods for us to move it...WHY do several other people feel then need to post saying the exact same thing and often in quite a rude manner.

Seriously people...this place was much nicer back in 2006 when I joined and those who were here before that say it was better even before then. I know of only a few people who are actively trying to make this place better like it was.

Maybe kids and teenagers enjoy locking horns with an adult just because it gives them some sort of pathetic rush. Or maybe they need to feel important and popular, so they either join in with the crowd in a dissenting or critical response, or they even flame. This especially happens in the shoutbox, where partiality reigns supreme, and even moderators - from time to time - are incapable of not siding with friends or "going with the crowd", even if that crowd is DEAD WRONG, because that is what teenagers and pre-teens do. Logic and good common sense not being a predicate quality in any of them. So the adult, or the person who is not with the "in crowd", or offers a differing or unpopular view, is slammed. HARD.

Although I am in my late teens myself, I agree 100%. When a crowd of younger people form a crowd based on a concept that is wrong, an adult is bound to step in with a supported counter-logic. When the younger people can't defend their argument, they resort to flaming and petty name-calling. This is one of the things gets on my nerves the most.

This point's already been beaten to death, but the way the atmosphere of a site comes down to members. I too agree that people here (and lately, all around the internet) have a tendency to over react at what's seemingly a simple misunderstanding. I have (and still do) over reacted about things, but I prefer to take a minute, and think over what exactly is happening. At that point, it comes to my discretion whether I want to pursue it, or move on. I honestly don't see many people doing that, and they just react the way their mind tells them to. That's the whole cause of these little firefights, is that people take things WAY too seriously.

And the most ironic part I've observed out of this, is that most of the folks telling reactive people "calm down" and other phrases along those lines are the same exact way. LOL. That's just my $.02.

I will point out, rather dispassionately, that a topic might be in the wrong board. No flame. No hostility or sarcasm. No "yelling". Nothing more than just a civil, gentle reminder. The response, usually from the author and/or his or her friends (and those who look for potential conflict so they can throw in their two freakin' cents), is predictable: "OH STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!!! CALM DOWN YOU PEOPLE! I'M SICK OF SEEING ARGUMENTS AND YELLING AT PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE THEY MADE A LITTLE MISTAKE!! I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS TOPIC LOCKED BECAUSE YOU'RE FLAMING THEM!!!!" (with or without the caps lock on) I wonder who really needs a good calming down, hm? Yeah...

I think alot of these people are, temperamental and that makes them, unpredictable. Any little thing that is ab normal to them, sets them off. As they are the ones to calm down. Or they don't like beaing wrong. One way or another, they need to GROWUP and move on.

Unfortunately, yes. They need to here that statement. "Respect your elders." There just seeing how far they can push you, before you get angry. (Seems to be the big thing these days.) Also yes, they just like to make themselves feel important. It makes them feel strong and bold, as you stated. I see that wrong and selfish. Alot of these people, like to make people upset and angry. Also, they do it to, show off in front of their friends(To make themeselfs look cool.) These people are just looking to get Attention. I see these people, who like to disrespect people, as a underdog. In better term, I like to call these people. INSOLENT. Just don't let their selfishness, put you down. That's what fules their foolishness. Trust me, I've been in this situation, many times, at school. Like me, I'm the schools's underdog. (off topic) This is my perspective, of how teens can be. I'm down to earth. I'm not like most teens. I act very mature; as that's how I'm raised. I will say, I do get my days. (Like everyone does.)

Sounds you need the healing power, of a song, that I turn to, when I'm down. click here

This is a very good rant... I, myself have accidentally flamed allowed at others at times. Which, I must say I"m sorry for. Anyway, I think that this could be a very important lesson to people who do exactly this. Most of them do it because they think it's cool or showing their popularity. It makes me sick.

I find this rather sad that, this has been allowed. (the foolishness around here.) I wish Balto source was a good place, like it used to be. The staff here are working hard but, not hard enouph.

Agreed. It was friendlier, less chocking and alot more relaxed...

As for the part about the wrong sections...Well, yeah we don't need a million people to tell that person it's in the wrong section. Usually I will say something along the lines of:

"This is in the wrong section. ^^ It belongs in "this section". I reported it to be moved." or "As someone else has mentioned, this belongs in "this section". I'll report it to be moved. ^^"

I usually will also add something to the topic's conversation.

If you ask me people need to just calm down...and relax. This is a forum, it's for fun.

I appreciate the show of support everyone. However, I must admit that I feel this will go nowhere. Why?

1. The perpetrators so often ranted about in this board either NEVER see it (because they have no interest in the rant board or because they don't even know it EXISTS, nor how to find it), or they simply don't care even if they DO know it's there (and just might feel as though the rants are either not directed at them, or are totally inapplicable TO them).

2. Bandwagon time again. People love to chime in with their support for a rant (for which I am sure that, like me, the topic authors are most appreciative), but they end up doing little more than that. No change has ever been noted by me as the result of a GOOD rant. Yeah, there are a lot of pointless and repetitive rants on this board...and some are absolute spam. But there ARE some good ones. Could any of you ever say that you saw any good come from it? And whose responsibility is it to see to it that good DOES come of a good, logical or sensible rant? Yes, go ahead...say it with me: "the staff of the site" (mods, admins, the webmaster and even lesser staffers). (Admittedly, we ALL share in that responsibility. If you see a rant and agree with it, you should help to carry forward the sound points made in it...ALL the time. Still, it falls to the staff to effect rules and policy changes as the result of good rants which gain a majority of support. And I don't see that happening much, if at all.)

3. I see moderators agreeing, and I love their support. Who wouldn't? But again, what comes of that in the long term? Just venting? (See my previous point.)

Rants are more than just someone venting their spleen over something which upsets them. In a way, they are also suggestions to the webmaster and his staff that change needs to be effected, in order that the cause of the rant can be eliminated or, at the very least, controlled. That should be the short-term goal of any good rant.

So...where are we going to go from here? Just venting and affirmation which leads nowhere? Or real CHANGE? Are Balto Source, Lion King Source and Animation Source going to eventually be places people can come to (newbies as well as "old-timers"...meaning experienced members) and expect a decent and positive experience? And if they are not having one, shouldn't they at least be able to KNOW that a moderator is going to step in on their behalf, and not simply either sit on a fence (play the middle by reprimanding everyone, including the target who did nothing wrong, as ever so often happens on this site) or else fall back on the excuse of "just report it and we'll get around to it"? Or, worst of all, come down on the wrong person (the target) simply because he or she might stand alone against a group of bullies who are doing their best to appear like the good guys.

As I said before: "talk is cheap". And: "actions speak louder than words". Words help draw attention to a problem. So does talk. But to effect change, you need ACTION. It's long overdue for step two in the process...

Exactly why I dont rant anymore. Some people are gonna disagree and agree with you but, barely anything on this site will change....ever. Its kind of pointless huh?
I'm very positive that in two years I will barely come on at all, even less then I do now....because its becoming an immature waste of time to become a member here when all people wanna do is argue with you about everything and pretend to be your friend, side with a group, hate on someone they've never met in real life and just be completely immature.

I feel bad for Steet above all because he tries so hard to keep all of us happy yet, here we are complaining 24/7 about things that will never change if we dont start with ourselves.

Its ironic isnt it? (and i don't mean you seppala because i've known you for some time and as much as people think you are the antagonist you seem to be the one with the most sense in alot of forum topics)
