If you just said "I'm assuming it's the same people that think Carlos Mencia/Dave Chapelle/Larry The Cable Guy is funny" I would've left it alone since I think that Mencia is one of the most painfully unfunny things to crawl from under a rock since Dave Chapelle.
Cook's style just consists of what he thinks is funny and I have been in tears over the stuff he's said. I do not find him to be obnoxious at all. Think what you want, But that's where I stand when it comes to Dane Cook.
Mencia, however, Is nothing more than an overhyped guy that a.) relies on half-a**ed racial jokes and has shot himself in the foot on multiple occasions, and b.) is completely obsessed with dumbfounding skits. The ONLY reason people are even still aware of his existence is because he coined the term "DEE-DEE-DEE!!!" And other comedians (none who I know) have actually confronted and accused him of leaching off others in terms of his "material", so he's basically an unfunny fraud.
I could go on and on over this when it comes to the people that THINK they're funny (Mencia, Chapelle, Larry, etc.) and people that KNOW they're funny (Dane Cook)
In short, you may not find Cook funny (and I'll respect that opinion), but he has a legion of fans (myself included
) and there's no arguing that. And since I respect your opinion, I only ask that you respect mine in return.
Gotcha. But Chapelle has substance to go with his shock humor, and I think that makes him quite funny.
