In my personal opinion, he was the greatest comedian who had ever lived. His critiques politics, culture, and the state of the world always remained as sharp, smart, relevent, and sarcastic as could be. Even if you were offended by some of the subject matter his jokes were built on, there was still a wit to the jokes that made you laugh as hard, if not harder than everyone else. He was an inspiration to an entire generation of comics. He will be missed.

I'm surprised noone else has responded to this. George Carlin will most assuredly be missed. He was a rare comic, someone who told it how it was and made a joke of it; without getting into trouble too.

Carlin took all the things you ever wanted to say about society, but never had the courage to say, added humor, and said it in front of a live audience. Some of his work even bordered on philosophy.
