hello! :) I'm Bree, and welcome to my very first fanfic! I hope you enjoy it

Chapter One: Life and Death

Sitka smiled at his newborn cub, Jesse. Jesse was nursing off his mother Sahara. Sahara smiled at Sitka and laid her head down on the cave floor to rest. The wolf pack sharing the same cave as Sahara and Sitka howled to the moon in celebration. All the wolves, except one; Sitka’s younger brother Achilles. Though Kala and James-Sitka’s youngest brother and sister-were celebrating the birth of their future pack leader, Achilles was angry that his brother and his brother’s wife were able to have a child. Achilles hoped that if Sitka and Sahara failed to have a child, then soon he (Achilles) would be able to take over the pack. None of the celebrating wolves noticed Achilles stalking out of the cave or leave into the woods. The wolves were only watching Sitka nuzzle his mate.
“Our child is as handsome as his father.” said Sahara.
“I can’t wait to see him grow strong.” said Sitka, “I wish to see all the female wolves chasing after him.”
Sahara chuckled and fell asleep while Jesse continued to nurse. Sitka laid his head on Sahara’s neck and immediately fell asleep.

Jesse, Benjamin, and Peter chased each other in the cave, laughing and wrestling. Jesse was now a seven year old cub. Benjamin and Peter where his younger brothers; even though they are twins, Benjamin is older than Peter by about a few minutes. Peter tackled Jesse and started pulling on his ear.
“Stop it, Peter!” said Jesse.
“Peter, get off your brother.” said Sahara, cleaning Johanna and Bella. Johanna and Bella where Jesse’s little sisters, they were Jesse, Benjamin, and Peter’s younger sisters. Benjamin, Peter, Johanna, and Bella quadruplets; Benjamin was first born, Peter was second, Johanna was third, and Bella was last. Johanna and Bella didn’t like to wrestle; they only liked to be well mannered compared to their older brothers.
“Mother, I was only playing.” said Peter, getting off of Jesse. At that moment, Sitka came in carrying a dead goose in his mouth for dinner. Because of the harsh winters, hunting wasn’t getting any better for the wolf pack. The cubs and the adults tried to eat equally between the family, but when the goose was eaten, the family was still too hungry to sleep.

“Now, remember what I told you about stranger danger.” Sitka told Jesse before Jesse left the cave to play.
“Yes, father.”
“Remember; watch out for the moose and bears.”
Don’t worry, father.” said Jesse, “I will.”
Jesse ran out of the cave and ran towards the woods to play. He spent the morning exploring the woods and wondering what lived in it. When the sun was high in the air, Jesse grew hungry and started to hunt for small animals. He started chasing a rabbit until he looked around and saw something; it was a cub. It’s wasn’t a cub from Jesse’s pack so he had never seen her before. She was sitting in the snow, watching him chase the rabbit. When Jesse turned his direction towards the rabbit again, he saw that he was heading towards a large tree. He wasn’t far away from it enough to run away from it so he accidentally went head-first into the tree. The girl cub ran over to him and started pushing her paw at his back.
“Are you okay, kid?” asked the cub.
Jesse rolled over and stood up.
“I’m okay.” said Jesse.
“Uh, did you ever think of going around that tree instead of running through it?” asked the cub
“Yes, well... usually it moves out of my way.” Jesse answered, lamely
The girl cub laughed and answered, “I’ve never heard of a tree actually doing that.”
“You don’t know the trees around here. Are you new here?”
“Kinda. My family is only coming here to show my brothers and I the forest.”
“Where do you live anyway?” asked Jesse
“My family and I live in a human town.” answered the cub, “My dad’s a race dog.”
“You mean you’re not a wolf?” asked Jesse.
“No, I’m a husky.” said the dog, “That’s a type of dog.” She added, seeing the confused look on Jesse’s face. “My name is Susannah, what’s yours?”
“My name is Jesse.” answered Jesse.

Life and Death Part 2

“Hey Jesse,” said Susannah, “I bet you'd be good at playing Hide and Seek! Wanna try it, Jesse?”
“Can I use my nose?” asked Jesse
“Sure. Okay, now go ahead and close your eyes and count.”
Jesse turned away from Susannah, closed his eyes, and started to count.
“One, two, three...” Jesse, not knowing what the rules were, started open his eyes a little bit and turned his head to look at Susannah. Fortunately, Susannah immediately caught him.
“No, Jesse! You can't peek!” she said sternly “Now, try again.”
Soon, Jesse had learned all the rules of the game. With the help of his nose, he was able to track Susannah everywhere. Later, when the sun was going down, the two pups laid down to rest.
“It’s a good thing you got the hang of the game.” said Susannah.
“I can’t wait to teach this game to the rest of the pack.” said Jesse
“Susannah, have you been playing games with a wolf?”
Jesse and Susannah jumped up and saw a female dog that looked exactly like Susannah. Jesse guessed that this was Susannah’s mother.
“Susannah, your father and I have been looking all over for you!” Susannah’s mother said, “We have been worried sick!”
Suddenly, another dog appeared at Susannah’s mother’s side, followed by three male puppies.
“Susannah, get away from that wolf cub!” the male dog demanded. The female dog walked over, picked up Susannah with her teeth by the scruff of Susannah’s neck, and walked back over to the male dog’s side. Sitka and Sahara suddenly appeared out of the bushes. Sahara jumped in front of Jesse, protecting him while Sitka walked over to Susannah’s family. Her mother, still holding Susannah, backed up behind Susannah’s father. The puppies followed her and hid behind her.
“What are you doing here?” asked Sitka, “This is our land.”
“We have as much right to be on this land as you do wolf.” said the male dog.
“Keep your humans away from my pack and away from my family. If you hurt any of my children, I will see to it that you will learn the pain of losing a loved one.”
And with that, Sitka and Sahara walked away from the dogs. Jesse stayed where he was for a moment, looking at Susannah.
“Jesse, come!” called Sahara. Jesse looked at Susannah one more time and ran after his parents.

That night, Sitka rounded up the whole pack together.
“Everyone,” he yelled out to them “We will avoid the strangers. Do not let them see you and do not seek them out.”
“But father, they mean us no harm.” interrupted Jesse
“Jesse, I don't know that.” Said Sitka
“But I do. I have spent time with them.”
“You may be willing to risk our safety, but I'm not.”
“Why are you threatened by anyone different from you?” Jesse asked angrily
Sitka looked at Jesse for a moment, “Protect this family and stay away from them.”
