Might as well not get your panties in a bunch over it, since as of now, nobody knows what will happen, if anything.

Oh my god! Oh my freaking god! Athene videos posted on the BaltoSource forums?
Athene is just idiotic; I know him over the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, and I've never seen a guy with such an ego! He's just acting, and so is his friends; there is no truth in what they say. BUT, Athene is an egosentric person in reality as well.
Also, I believe Athene's videos are not fit for BaltoSource at all...
Either way, the world will NOT end in 2012 (we still have five more generations to go before the first - and unlikely - prognosis).

I think this is just another of those things that is supposed to get everyone worked up over nothing. These things have happened in the past for example about 20 years ago everyone thought the world would end when some of the planets aligned or even further back in time when they thought that the world would end whenever Halley's comet came around, and I dare say silly end of the world hoaxes like these will continue long into the future, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I think it had something to do with the way people programmed the date/time function way back when computers were first made... they only made the year have two digits, so 1999 would show up as 99 and 2000.. well, 00. And a lot of programs were dependent on this date/time value to work. Basically the computers wouldn't work and the date/time would be wrong - and then computers were used with power stations, medical equipment, etc. Basically, lotsa trouble. I remember it well as my dad would often be off working during 1997-2000 fixing this - I think all the software providers had to provide a fix or something that ran through programs that would be at risk of malfunctioning due to this - I know because I have logs of such programs on old paper somewhere... By the way, my head will explode in 2022!!

wow you guys are totally missing the point. I said the INTERNET not the WORLD -.-;. and like I said its like open air tv ending next year... it is very possible that we will have to start paying for more popular sites like tv channels. With the economy the way it is, I don't doubt it. But if you guys want to ignore me and a possible problem... go ahead...I just thought it would be good to bring up something that MIGHT happen...its not the end of the world if the internet dies. I don't agree that the web will die off completely but there are many that won't pay for certain sites or at all for internet...

I don't think it'll happen. With the population's wallets the way they are and look to be, no-no.

I doubt it, if something like that were to happen people would certainly kick off about it. Technically we already pay for internet anyways (had to buy routers and such no?) so I doubt something like this would happen. From the way they spoke it sounded more like "this is scary storie!! Be afraid nao!!".
EDIT//
Link removed. The content on said userpage is definately not for BS and the video was basically scare-mongering.
