Hello again. I'm now officially working on the sequel to my story; Balto and the White Wolf. This will revolve more around Aniu and Steele.

Without further ado, here is an excerpt from the story.

*

He slowly opened his yellow-brown eyes, the light blinding him as he did. Even inside the den, the tranquil morning light hit him through the entrance, and he once again wished for a morning during summer in Alaska that did not begin with bright light. It always gave him a headache.
Standing up, after stretching himself and yawning in various – bizarre – ways, he walked out the den exit, welcoming the morning. The area had a tranquil glow today, beams of light escaping through the treetops, lighting up the dust in the air making them appear as glowing orbs, floating around. Finding such a place in Alaska, especially this far north, was close to impossible, but Balto knew where it had been. After all, parts of his childhood was spent here; three years ago, when he was two months old. But they moved closer to Nome for some obscure reason after that, where he spent the next three months unaware of having a father.
And now he was back. Grown, he had too; his body had attained a great, muscular shape, and his speed had increased as well. He dared to call himself the fastest wolf dog in Alaska.
His fur had darkened as he grew during the last two years; the light-brown color had become darker on the top of his body, but his socks, chest fur and the fur on the underside of his tail remained the same. Talking about tails, Balto had discovered he could curl his tail like a husky can and act like a Malamute of sorts. He figured this might be a good skill, should he ever have to enter a human town or something. As for his paws, they had grown to become huge, really huge, even by wolf-standards.
He yawned again and headed down a path to the east where the river would wait for him at the end.
The area around the den itself was a beautiful place. It was a very healthy forest, bright with colors and had a certain glow to it in the mornings. As he walked down the path, the density of the forest diminished, before leaving nothing but open land in front of him. The river was still a few minutes’ walk from here, but nothing ever happened anyway.
As he arrived, he took one careless look around, just in case, before he lowered his head to the water, letting his tongue lap up the liquid. It tasted strangely common; had he been drinking here before, perhaps? Balto grinned a bit for himself at his question; he liked asking himself such silly things.
Following that he headed back to the den, for another uneventful day.

Great work this sounds really interesting. Also great work on your descriptive language you've written it so well that me (the reader) can really picture the scenery as well as picturing exactly what’s going in my mind.

Here's another teaser to keep you busy and introduce you a bit to the plot ;]

-------------------------------------------

Two years and six months ago…
Aniu sat down quietly and watched her children play around the den; they were so young and with that they had no concerns. Oh, how she envied them.
The wind ruffled her white fur gently, rubbing her own conscience on her. She felt bad because she knew she had to leave the pups. It had already been discussed with their father. They had to leave her for their own safety; she didn’t want them to become strays and shun humanity, who could provide their warm homes and protect them.
“Come on, slowpokes!” she heard Balto yell, and she smiled. That kid was so energetic. And the thought of having to leave them made her feel even worse. But it was time.
“Balto, where are you?” Aniu asked, quickly getting a response from her son, closely followed by his siblings.
“I’m coming, Mom!” Balto replied, running. His mother eyed him as he closed in on her.
“What is it, Mom?”
“Remember when you asked about your father, Balto?”
Balto nodded, and Aniu braced herself.
“Well, we are going to see him today. You don’t want to miss that, no?” she said, faking excitement to reassure her son. She hoped it would work.
“No, I don’t!” Balto said, shaking his head.
Aniu smiled; her son would become a fine wolf one day. What would happen to her other children she couldn’t guess. She could only hope Cheroo would take good care of them.

After about two hours of walking they arrived at the forest border, and Aniu sat down. Balto began panicking a little, smelling humans in the vicinity. She tried to calm her son down, but it didn’t work.
Telling him to stay quiet, she let loose an howl, calling for Cheroo. Then she laid herself down in the melting snow… Snow during summer was unusual, but she had chosen this particular spot because there still was some snow left. Summer usually took its turn on her body before her fur became thinner.
Thirty minutes later she sniffed the air, smelling Cheroo. Balto could smell him too, apparently. Aniu watched Balto carefully as he panicked, knowing fully well that she could calm him down if he lost it entirely. Then he put his teeth in her paw, and she knocked him over, yelping, giving him a harsh glare afterwards. Her son got the hint and put his ears backwards and waited. His siblings were calmer; maybe because they cuddled up to their mother, unlike Balto.
Then Cheroo came into their sight, and Aniu stood up, walked over to him and licked him lovingly. The pups closed in on them cautiously.
“Aw, c’mon, Aniu. You raised them to be scared of me?” Cheroo asked, and Aniu shook her head and told him about the incident with the town dogs, a month ago or so.
“Mom…” whined Balto. “Can we go see Father now?”
Aniu sighed. ‘Would he ever get rid of that arrogance of his?’ she asked herself.
“Balto… this ‘dog’ IS your father.” She said.
Balto seemed shocked, and Aniu wondered whether this was a wise decision, once again. She nudged him.
“Balto… look at your father and tell me what you see.”
Her son stood still for a minute, then looked at Aniu again.
“Mom... I see... a dog. A dog, not my father...” he responded, and looked at his father again.
Cheroo eyed Aniu for a moment. He playing surprised now was crucial. Then she turned tail, using the ability she had practiced for a year now; silent movement, and headed into the forest, hoping her love could handle the children from now on.

Started to work properly on the fanfic now, and here is the next addition to the chapters (the Fanfic will be posted here as it's being completed to check in every now and then =) ).

I realize this is a short additon, but I promise the next one will be longer. Also, by all means, criticize my writing if you can; I want to know anything you might find weird in the story itself, grammar, spelling, etc. as I want to improve ;] All feedback is appreciated.

Balto peered around himself, yawning again. It was morning after all. And as he expected, not even his morning drink could wake him up. The river used to be so refreshing. Well, in the past anyway. It seemed so empty these days, like something was missing. Right now he couldn’t put a paw on it, though.
He longed back to Nome, he did. He was sure Togo would welcome him. And he missed Steele; his only true friend. Even though they had only had one chance to play together, Balto felt that he had bonded with that pup. But would Steele remember him if he was to return to the town?
He cast a longing gaze towards the direction of Nome, which was much too far away. Maybe he ought to go back after all? Uncle Boris had to miss him a whole lot.
The thought of it made him snicker; if Boris missed anything, it would probably be lady geese and not him. Oh well; maybe Boris would have better luck with the ladies than he had. A few weeks ago, Balto had come across a small group of refugee wolf faes. Of course he tried to get their attention, but they blatantly ignored him. He probably wasn’t any ladies’ wolf… or a wolf-dog. Whatever suits his category better.
He blinked. Once again, he had his thoughts straying from what was important; staying alive. After all, if he was going to hunt prey, he had to focus on the hunt itself, not some silly things like running after the faes.

“Steele!”
Something made grunting noises from the doghouse, but nothing emerged from it.
“Steele! Come here!” the voice repeated.
Something furry finally emerged from the small house. It was black and white in color and had a devious and sly face, teeth white and sharp and eyes that sparkled with a mischievous spirit. He had a rather expensive collar around his neck.
