I'm not sure if this is the same, but a lot of people think all bats are vampires. In reality, only three species (out of hundreds) drink blood. Only one of those bites mammals on a regular basis, and that one favors the blood of livestock, only drinking human blood if starving and no other blood is available (apparently we don't taste very good).

Here's another one: people think that snakes hypnotize their prey. They don't, but an animal that sees a snake coming at it may become paralyzed with fear, giving rise to the myth.

That wolves howl at the moon. Wolves will howl at any time of the day or night - howling is a way of communicating over long distances and helps defend the pack territory from intruders.

Spotted hyenas do not actually scavenge that often. About 80% of what they eat they would have killed themselves.

Ostriches do not bury their heads in sand.

well what i heard i heard thats how they communicate to a wolf pack (never heard bout the intruder thing cuz i watched this on Animal Planet on Discovery) and a way of finding them and i think also some wolves might do it for loneliness and try to find a pack..

but true that wolves howl at any time of day. thats what i've seen and heard from the howling wolves.. but the last thing i'm not sure of i just over-heard it. :)
