in the part where steele steps on baltos paw and balto yelps in pain, the the captan of the dog sled team thinks balto was to dangerous to be on the dog sled team. What spot on the sled team do you think balto would be on if he made it?would balto have taken steeles spot? Would they have gotten lost anyways? I just want to see your opinions on the matter.

I think he'd have been somewhere behind Steele. To the man, he'd see him as too small to be in the back of the sled, so he'd either be first behind Steele (and all the other dogs in their orders) or somewhere in the middle. The movie's logic would probably just place the dogs in the order of how they won the race, not including Steele. There's no way he would've replaced Steele because Steele was too valuable at the time. He didn't even need to race, he was automatically gonna be chosen.

Balto probably would've tried to help "co-lead" but I doubt Steele would listen to him. Either that or use him like he did in the movie to find his way back. Steele managed to make most of the trip on his own, of course, but saying the whether got really bad like it did in the movie, I'd say it'd be an equal chance that they'd make it back. Because Balto wouldn't have marked a trail to help him find his way, which was what he used to find his way home in the movie. He didn't use pure instinct to find his way like he'd more than likely have to do in this case.

In my fanfic, Fable to Factuality, Steele and Balto get lost in the same whether together and just grit their teeth and help each other. I think that's what they'd end up doing in his case. If Steele doesn't just whip his head around and kill Balto first XD

wow, thats pretty much a perfect reply up there, I can see that happening if Balto had been allowed on the team anyway. I could also see Balto just behind Steele so the sled team layout would go Steele, Balto, Star, Nikki, Kaltag etc

Nah, they like Steele too much at that part of the movie to change lead dog. Sadly, Balto would had been behind Star, Kaltag, and Nikki even though he was faster than the others. Of course, all this is if they even accepted him since he's part wolf, which is just a childish reason to stay away from a dog.

since he won the race to see who would be on the dog sled team I would guess that they would try to put the fast ones in front... so I would say either 2nd or 3rd... That's my guess...

I think that Steele would probably be somewhere behind Balto since Steele did not even run in the race and Balto won first place. It would only be fair.

Deffs behind Steele... he was faster than Star but Steele was automatically lead anyway.

yeah, If he would have made the sled team him and steel would probably fight over where to go and such and chaos with just break loose...

I agree completely, Balto likely would've been second on the team if say he'd of seen what Steele was trying to do and moved paw out of the way, which in reality would of been more likely seeing Balto wouldn't trust Steele at all. And likely Balto would try to help Steele, Steele would ignore him, they'd fall down the cliff but Balto, given his nature, would've likely used his instincts to find his way back, though he'd probably have to accept his wolf nature before using his instincts which still could've happened, however maybe Steele wouldn't find his way home seeing as he followed Balto's trail back. Some needs to write this in fanfiction form...any voulentiers?

if he had made the team, lots of the drama between him and steele and steele lying about balto dying and stuff would have been avoided. more kids might of lived too cuase the meds would have gotten to nome faster. but then the movie woulda been boring....

Still, though, while I mostly agree with what everybody said, we are forgetting that Balto had absolutely no sledding experience, no matter how fast he was. I don't think he was strong enough for a lead, either.
