Leonhard Seppala didn't think Balto as anything more than a working dog, one of the reasons being his build. Therefore, he was neutered.

The Seppala family descendants have kept Leonhard Seppala's kennel records a closely-guarded secret, and they are not known for being the sharing sort. They have only shared, on VERY limited and guarded terms, material with only a VERY few entities and individuals. Which is a terrible shame, as the information in their possession could help fill in MANY gaps about many of the old Siberian husky lines, Sepp's breeding program, and the history of the '25 serum run, the All-Alaska Sweepstakes races (and other smaller races of the time period), and even gold mining history. So, in other words, any pedigree showing Balto's sire and dame, as well as any litter mates, has never ever been released to the public. If it exists anywhere, it exists in the private collection of the Seppala family. And they're not sharing. It may be a good idea that they aren't. Think of how much publicity they would get...The dogs would go on sale for much more than any other dog and it could start some big problems for really obssesed people. There could be break ins at the place or the homes of those that bought and own a dog from there..Its safer to keep it secret..

That's messed up, how can you just take someones manhood er- doghood? Probably because it's done all the time with domestic animals. Not just dogs, but cats, various other kinds of pets, and other types of domestic animals as well. Mostly to prevent overbreeding and inbreeding. I mean, that should be obvious. Have you never owned a pet dog or cat before? I know, it was simply a joke. I've owned several dogs and cats in the past.
