My friend has a German Shepard named Kerwin. He's black, with brown legs, and is extremely furry. ( and cute ) I could almost bet that he has wolf in him. He looks just like one. We were walking in the woods behind her house and I saw him back there, and for a second I thought he was a wolf! I'll try to get pics soon! Anyway, what do you think?

Cool, very cool. I hope your friend has knowledge of wofdogs...well anyone owning a dog must have knowledge of the wolf...it helps alot in raising them... I did a workstudy of dog training and behavior for about 3 years at a place that used to be called Animal Instincts/CSABR now its ABRT<<<clicky. The owner (who left when I was there0 had two wolf mixes that were pretty much wolf and not much dog. She didn't call them "hybrids" and got mad when someone did because the wolf is just a main breed of the dog species. The domestic dog came from the wolf a breed bred from what people liked...I would describe the process but it's too long lol. ANYWAYS she took her wolves to librarys and did presintations to educate people. She let them know that wolfdogs are very smart and need alot of land to romp around in. Now it may differ from mix to mix but raising them as a pup is hard. They chew everything lol Where I'm getting at is that many people are probably going to argue here about owning a wolfdog... I believe you cannot have a wolfdog or any type for that matter as a "pet" they have to be part of the family/pack. There are some places where you have to have some sort of lisence to own a dog with wolf in it and some don't. If you are going to own one, make sure you're educated in how they act and what thier behavior is and how the social structure is going to help...like I said I hope your friend is knowledgable about this. There are so many people that get a wolf for a pet and they blame the animal for acting naturally...

Many German Shepherds are black with some brown; though most are black and tan. And some German Shepherds do have long fur, its called the "Long-haired German Shepherd". ;] But it is possible that the dog can be part Alaskan Malamute, or a slight chance of wolf/

Same with Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs and Saarloos Wolfhounds. I think it is possible that your friend's dog has some wolf in him, though a lot of German Shepherd Dogs can look strikingly wolfish. But I agree with Bunny, I need to see a photo before I can judge.

Look like any of these dogs? It's probably not a German Shepherd. Try reading over this: Xina96 wrote: My friend has a German Shepard named Kerwin. I'm sure Xina's friend would know the breed. Don't you think Xina would have been told what breed it was?

It is very possible, but it depends on most. Does he howl?
