I agree with you alot. I just hate finding my way into fan arts that are nothing but lineart. And the thing is some people don't even know its line art and they think the owner of the gallery made it them self. I really hate seeing so much lineart. They can atleast do ONE drawing them self. Lazy people.

I agree fully. Its stupid to post someone else's art all the time even if you ARE allowed to use it (uh, yeah, there's SUPPOSED to be a rule against this) Thanks to people constantly posting it, I'm even getting sick of seeing my own crap on this site XD I'm not kidding.

I draw my own pictures...I havent used line art by other people yet. If I ever do use line art it'll be mine though. Nice rant by the way...I think people should at least try to draw instead of being lazy like some other people say and start drawing them. I love to draw that is why I draw...

That's it. I don't think lineart should be used for anything apart from that and it certainly shouldn't be in galleries unless it's your own.

The tons of "illegitimate" (yes, I'm comparing it to marriage) lineart on the site really wrecks my FanArt experience as a viewer.
Now, there are things called "collabs", where one may do lineart and the other does the coloring and shading. Very nice work has been produced this way.
However, those galleries full of someone else's lineart and little or none of the members themselves totally kill the point of a fanart gallery:
1. FanArt is art produced by a fan of Balto/TLK (in the case of this site). 2. FanArt identifies the individual's unique (note: u-n-i-q-u-e) perception of their adoration for whatever they are creating art of. 3. FanArt should (and hopefully does) make you feel good and part of a group of people with a shared interest.
If your gallery is mostly filled with lineart that isn't yours: Do you feel proud of your work? Do you think you are making a personal and unique statement? Do you want others to like/admire your work and want to work with you if you share some common perspective on art?
Usually all artists want respect and approval from the artists they like. But how on earth does one attain it if one does not put quality, originality, and time into one's own work? If you're not serious about your art, you simply won't be taken seriously as an artist.
And now let us think of all the viewers. Do they want to see multiple linearts over the whole fanart section simply colored in different colors? No. They want to see art.
I think that this should be dealt with, because the more it happens, the more people decide to join for it attains a "normality" and "acceptance" status.
There should be a ratio limit of lineart to individual fanart.
Why? Because there are some nice collabs out there, and eliminating the use of someone else's linearts would do away with some nice art contributed to the site, although if anyone wants to color in lineart for every single artwork they do they can go to sites like deviantart, etc.
Another suggestion I've heard is the creation of a separate image gallery, which would be something like "Fan Fan Image Gallery". Well, just looking at it is absurd. This site is a Balto/TLK fan site, not a "color in my lineart" site.
So I stay put with a ratio limit/number of lineart allowed per member.

Finally... I couldn't agree more with you on this. I am getting quite sick of seeing these things over and over again. I rarely mind if a gallery has no or little lineart in it. And I like collabs. But I'm sick of seeing member that use nothing but lineart. It is very, very boring, and to me it shows just shows laziness. An.. I've lost count on the number of times I've seen "My scanners broken D:" excuse. For some people this might be true... but I'm betting alot of people use this only as an excuse for laziness. Member: Make a mate for blah blah blah...No lineart. Member 2: *Hands in an on the spot badly coloured lineart* I had to use lineart cuz my scanner has broken D: But.. really, people put very little effort into art these days.People arn't poisting fan art because they like to or do it for fun...they try post and for popularity, so if they think their arts bad, they dump it and steal from others. I never post linart in my gallery, I most I use it for is when I'm trying to get down a charcter design or somthing along those lines... Catwhohas14tails said:Quote: I'm even getting sick of seeing my own crap on this site XD I'm not kidding. Your art isn't crap Cat XD Most of the time it's the people who colour it badly and use it for the wrong things in the wrong places that ruin it...

Lol, that's so true. XD Whenever I browse through fanart galleries on baltosource...I see tons of linearts by you and other artists who've been working hard on improving their art for years....And then, you see these pathetic people who hardly post any of their personal art, but constantly upload other people's lineart coloured sloppily (most of the time). Don't get me wrong though, it's fun sometimes to just colour in someone else's lineart (with permission). I've done it myself. I coloured on of Draco's colour-me-fun linearts that she made. It was fun, but personally I feel much prouder when the drawing I completed was entirely done by me...

It is very boring, I've taken to not even viewing a gallery if it has a lineart as the gallery entrance pic for 2 reasons: 1; Said gallery is most likely full of all lineart. 2; Your entrance pic should be a piece of work you are proud of to have made yourself...a lineart isn't your own work, 75% of the work is done, all you have to do is colour it.
I will admit that recently I've been colouring quite a few in Paint but that's because my Photoshop trial ran out, I don't have my Paint Shop installation CD and can't afford Photoshop right now though almost all have remained only on my computer unless I'm using it for an adoption.
I think one of the main reasons could be that quite a lot of the serious artists don't update their BS galleries that much anymore, I know I don't anymore, mainly all goes on my dA page. There are still quite a few good, consistent and serious artists left on here...it's just the sifting through the ocean of lineart galleries to find them.
I'm also getting annoyed at seeing lineart galleries on the first page of the fan-art gallery, please people!! DDDD= Save our eyes!! Do proper fan-art!!

warriorcat wrote: maybe there should be a restriction or something on how many of these types of "art" people should have allowed into their gallerys? it truly doesnt seem right..... Just my point. I'd suggest a "collab to independent art ratio" or a specific number even (which would make it easier for moderaton than a ratio).
