I have noticed this quite a lot on this site. In some people's fan fics I've read or fan art I've seen, Jenna is no longer with Balto. She is with Steel! And the authors of the fan fics make up a small detail in the story that Balto had died, Jenna lost interest in him, Steel won her affection, etc. Do many people on this site not like the character, Balto? I can relate to some of the stories. In some or most of them, Steel changes and turns good or something like that. The reason I can relate to that is because I make Niju a good guy in one of my fan fics, and believe it or not, falls in love with Aleu. I can sort of understand where the people are coming from, but I find it kind of strange that maybe some people don't like Balto. And if Steel doesn't turn good, than honestly, I don't think that's really a flattering thing. Last time I checked, Steel's sort of a lusty, self absorbed character. And I honestly think I'm speaking for all of us here when I say that we don't want Jenna to be in the wrong hands. In other words, someone who's lusty and self absorbed.
So what's the deal with this? Why is Jenna with Steel all of a sudden?

Well, perhaps the whole Steele/Jenna fandom is starting to grow because it was hinted in the first film (Remember? Steele has always been hitting on Jenna, ignoring all of the other dogs just to be with her. Of course, we all know what happens next . . . DUH.), but I suppose some fan-writers are writing what could have happened if Steele got together with Jenna instead of the canon pairing of Balto/Jenna. It's something different, something new . . . like unexplored territory.
And BTW, love the fact that I'm not the only one that believes in Niju/Aleu! Whoo!

Niju @ Aleu forever! No prob. Actually, I'm working on a fic that has a Steele/Jenna romance but it's more of a triangle between Steele, Balto and Jenna (the guys both want Jenna . . . and they'll do whatever it takes to prove their worth for her love . . . AWW.). I really don't see anything wrong with this . . . it's something different than the usual Balto/Jenna love fest (which I have nothing against, of course . . . most of my fics support Balto/Jenna anyway!), because we all need a little break for something out of the ordinary! (Like Niju/Aleu . . . I agree - I have him doing a complete 180 personality-wise and he realizes that he was beginning to have feelings for her - that was why he couldn't kill her in the movie . . . LOL. Now, whether Aleu accepts his sudden change, that's a different story!) But there is one thing I don't understand - why is the thread about Balto always dying? Or do you mean in fics how he is quickly replaced with Steele? - Juuchan17

It hasn't been explored before, and it's also mainly caught on due to other more well-known fanfic writers writing about it, as per usual.

Okay... I hope you all dont mind me posting this thought I had a few years back on this touchy subject. I mean absolutely NO OFFENSE with this. It just shares my opinions on the matter the best way I know how to! (God.. I sound way too much like Trivium's Matt Heafy meets Neil Peart in this ) --------------------------- I just really want to say that I actually really like seeing these kind of things sometimes, because they really stand out it a crowd because of the deep emotion given off, and you are absolutely right about this type of subject matter and it being a touchy topic with some people But I mean, Honestly guys take a good hard look at where it really matters? then you'll understand logically where I'm going with this.. Another thing I've noticed that really bothers me like you and a large mutlitude of others, how so many take of us this stuff too seriously, and really that just bites at my morals,as I'm sure it does with some others, because we all truly know that this is a majorly important part everyone's life and really for that matter, every single living thing in the world! Basically because if that kind of thing never happened, the world would be way overpopulated even for our own good...XD So to honestly sum it all up, one's death can be just as symbolic and memorable as that person's life was, and I greatly respect this part of the life cycle and would honestly give it hell to respect every day, minute, second, you know well whatever you want to call it, in fact, I'd go as far as to give it all away to just to help others around me understand that one should never take their life for granted because of small yet important thing, and despite the fact that I know that nothing lives forever, but as you've stated in the end of this short, spirits will live on forever! So now I'll remind everyone to try and take pride in every good moment of your own lives and even try to reflect on it as a whole because it's how everyone will react around your departure, trust me, I have, and admit it was so worth it! Ever since I started doing this, I have been enjoying every moment of it my life, to make a long story short, it's been like a wonderful yet silent dream that never ends. Basically what I am saying is to "Seize the day" because you may never know if it will be your last! keep this in mind and you will go very far in life! I can promise to you it helped make me a stronger individual in the long run.. it did for me, trust me guys, I am living proof of this because I have been near death a few times and my will is what kept me alive and I know without it I probably wouldn't be here to say this to you all, and I'm very proud of this.... I have to stop here.. I am getting too emotional to continue any father. it's just too sentimental to me. Sorry! With respect and dignity to all concerned -Firestorm

Instead of people TRYING to tell it how it is, I'm going to tell it how it is the natural way.
Some people don't like Balto and like to picture his ending bitterly. Is this bad? Not really. I mean, I see people who hate Steele and I always see him get bitter endings. Often ridiculously bitter endings. Same goes with Balto and Jenna and whoever. Now, I like Balto, but I don't cry about if he gets a sad ending (he DIED for God's sake LOL).
Some people just want to see something different. Contrary to popular belief, nothing is wrong with this. Some people like routine, some people don't. You know how it is XD
Some people want their favorite character Steele get some love, instead of seeing him bashed all the time by the Balto-shippers. You know, people who yank their hair out at the thought of Balto stubbing his toe. Contrary to popular belief, there is also nothing wrong with this. I mean, hey, I hate Niju with a fiery red passion and I've no problem with you pairing him with a good-guy. This might be because I don't like either character, but in this case, who really cares?
Some people like "What if" scenarios. Its what the creative thinker is always thinking at the beginning of a project. "What if this happened" or "what if that happened". Most of the time, they know it can't happen, but they use the idea anyway. Because contrary to popular belief, its called fanfiction for a reason.
And to some people, like what Firestorm said, some people will write stories out whether it be about Balto's death, or Jenna getting with Steele, maybe they're using symbolism. Some writers like myself, base their stories, no matter what they're writing about, on real life situations. Maybe Balto represented someone they knew who acted like Balto and they died, etc. etc.
However, as much as people hate to admit it, there's only so much you can do with one subject. Whether it be canon or non-canon, only so much can be done and I say everything on this site has been done. So no matter which subject you're looking at when it comes to Balto, interesting things are going to be difficult to find. Which is why there's so many copies of different things like Jenna/Steele fanfics. There's only a few well-written Jenna/Steele fics. Then again, there are only a few well-written Balto fics in general. People are gonna find every loophole to make it interesting for themselves, and can you really blame them? They want to stay interested in Balto and they have their own ways of doing it.
But I say its cool that you're curious in a not-mean way. Some people will have a mouth-foaming, pants-wetting seizure over something like this because once Balto's tainted with "fandom" their whole life is tainted with the darkest of evils XD It goes for anything really.
But I can assure you, this'll eventually pass. People will move onto whichever crack-pairing they see most interesting. It's a fad. So once the fans move on, hopefully the shippers will too.
EDIT:
Oh, by the way, Jersey, I contacted Phil Weinstein himself and asked him of Kodi's sexual orientation ("Has Kodi's sexual orientation been discussed since it was only hinted Dusty was interested in Ralph and vice versa? Has he ever been considered homosexual?") and he wasn't offended in the least. So I think you need to grow out of the Pampers about the Kodi/Kirby thing, hon.

One person gets an idea (be it good, mediocre, or utterly bad), and then everyone wants to do the same ***** thing. 2) most of the "writers" who post on this site (and I am STILL using that term QUITE loosely) have this annoying penchant for not only pushing the envelope, but also for taking gratuitous and often flagrant license with the Balto universe canon. And they justify that nonsense with "it's just fan fiction" or "the movie stuff is so boooorrrring, that we're just trying to spice it up and make it worthwhile" (both statements are pretty lame excuses and defenses in my opinion - and the opinions of many others) 3) most of the "writers" who post on this site (...yep, you guessed it...) seem to have this VERY annoying penchant for turning a good and wholesome cartoon universe into a sick, base, dark, violent and deviant place. And despite the rules of this site, they are given the freedom to do so "as long as it is not explicit" (which again, to me, is a pretty lame excuse and defense...and a dirty, contradictory loophole). The whole Steele/Jenna thing has become as ridiculously and irritatingly overwrought and played out as the offensive and SICK "Kodi/Kirby" thing. (Oops...I brought up the subject that is not allowed to be criticized. I guess that means some friend of the Kodi/Kirby crowd is gonna lock this or threaten or bully me now. ) So you're whining about Balto getting the raw end of a deal in a fan fiction...? Or is this going off on a tangent about other "things"? I can't imagine how you'd do in a bigger fandom (ie Harry Potter), you'd probably kill someone or yourself. It's their imagination if you don't like it, suck it up. Nobody's forcing you to read it. Oh and one last thing, do you actually READ other fan fics? There are some very well written ones out there where Balto does find his happy ending again, and some even better ones where he doesn't.

Alright, here goes.
BaltoSource, in case you haven't noticed, works in trends with both subjects and artists.
Back in the day you'll remember catwhohas14tails first posted her fanfic, Buried Secrets, with a Kodi/Kirby pairing. It sparked a trend. There was no rule regarding homosexuality in fanfiction so naturally people thought they could write a fanfic with basically the same main events in order to somehow become popular. Note, this doesn't actually work, ironically enough. Soon the site was absolutely FLOODED with fanfics with a gay pairing. steet had no way to regulate this, so he banned the subject altogether.
Same deal with Jenna/Steele, which has been steadily developing but burst once again with another of catwhohas14tails' fanfics which explored the possibility of Steele's story upon returning to Nome to be legit. Before then, we hadn't seen that many Jenna/Steele fanfics, but since in this one Balto actually died, again, a trend was sparked. Fanfics with Balto dying and Jenna going off with Steele were widely the norm.
See? Even in the fan images section, I've noticed, there's artists, a time when an artist has a peak of popularity. There was a time when I myself was on the front page of "favourites this month" in fan images - alas, no more. My laptop crashed and I was unable to put up more renders, so people got sick of it and moved on to people with somewhat similar styles to mine (quite irritably but whatever).
If you haven't noticed it, you're a bit slow.

Everyone.
I understand every persons will to use their imagination. And I am all for whatever they have in their little minds. I am honestly thankful for everyone answering my questions. Most of them, anyway. There is nothing wrong with people being creative with their stories, art and such. As you know, I have done it to the point where a character that almost killed another main character falls in love with that person.
In my case, I have made a villain good, and that's what some people do with Steel in this situation. But what if that's not the case? Some people might not make him good, and in my thinking, leave Jenna with a not much of a loving character but a self absorbed one, as I said before.
Do people really want Jenna to be with someone like that?

Why not? If everyone got a happy ending, how fun would that be? And like Cobalt said, it's a trend.

Immediate first thought: "GOODNESS GRACIOUS" JC... there's no need to cause such a fuss, and often it will get one nowhere. You tell people that you're not flaming, however, as of late your posts have become even more and more accusational and often provoking of users. You're against the whole dark/violence/sexuality/gore thing. Great, well done, good on you. However, jumping onto users and basically yelling in their face that they need to change their ways is NOT going to acheive anything. After all, nobody on the "other side" of the argument has ever seen the need to jump on you about the issue, have they? Instead, your heated replies will often make users feel the need to defend their opinion, and then start a nice big flamewar due to your persistency that eventually a mod will have to attend to and have to close. Rather ironic as they are trying to do other things such as handle the very things in fanworks you're ranting about. Before you start on me, as on every other occaison you have when I've replied to your posts with a varied opinion (once again, " "), take in note how many topics mods have needed to attend to instead of actually doing their job (as described above) when you simply could have taken the much easier option of "not care less" where one simply doesn't care and doesn't feel the need to oppose someone else's views all the time, as you have shown a difficulty to do so. Your continual need to prove yourself right over every other person with a different opinion certainly doesn't match up to the little "holier-than-thou" thing you seem to be going on with, does it? I think not. You are more or less at fault as Cat is.
