The whole "game" section would need a major improvement. I haven't touched it since 2005...I'm even surprised it still works.
The aim of the quizz section was for everyone to make their own quizzes, although I never got the time to make a send system for this. It will come, the only question is when...
If you want, I could give it a try and see what I can come up with. It would be easier for me to limit it to the member database of the website if you used an SSL.php file to connect the forum and website like you do.
Still, I'll see if I can take some work off your shoulders.
Err...What?...I don't exactly understand what you're saying.
The forum and website are connected by the database : there are separate tables ("member" for the site, "phpbb_users" for phpBB), and "member" has a foreign key on the phpBB table (well not exactly, but that's to summarize) The "member" table adds all the information that is not in the phpBB one (the 50*50 avatar, the country, foreign keys to the galleries, etc...), but the login and password are kept in the phpBB table.
When you connect on the site, the SQL query is a join between both tables.
I *really* don't see how SSL would be related to this.
You wouldn't help me much by making your own send system, because it would be more difficult to integrate it to the site than making it myself. I have a lot of functions and data that are shared between all the sections, so it couldn't be separated from the others.
Sorry, I misspelled it. It's SSI.phpWell, I find the useage of SSI.php much more efficient than to connect the website directly to the phpbb_users database.
The script that would be used to check if a member is online through the SSL would look something like this:
<?php
include('board/SSI.php');
if ($context['user']['is_logged'])
{
echo 'your html here'
}
else
{
echo 'You are not allowed to view this page; you need to login. You may do so <a href="http://loginurlhere.com">here</a>'
?>
It's really quite simple. Using the SSI.php file, you can also make the login script function properly with the website, and it allows you to log on to the forum directly from the website.
The login script would look something like this (php includes before the <html> tag, usually):
<?php include('boards/SSI.php');
if ($context ['user']['is_logged']
{
echo 'You are already logged in.'
header('homepage.php');
}
else
{
echo 'ssi_login($redirect_to = 'secure_page.php')
<br>
Please log in.'
}
?>
.
This solution works for the Forum I am messing around with, and you can restrict any page to online user by simply using the if ($context['user']['is_logged']) function. It would be much easier, and it would also have made BaltoSource much more efficient. I do believe the script can also be modified for shoutbox adaptments. Shortly, the SSI.php file takes useage of all information in the forum databases; avatars, skins, etc. etc. This could also make the shoutbox more efficient, since there isn't as much information to process, since the SSI file does all the work.
Note: This is really for SMF forums, and I am a bit inexperienced with PhpBB forums, I admit. However, I do believe the above codes could be modified to work with PhPBB.
What concerns me, however, is how the profiles would work with the script. I have been unable to test this myself, due to my lack of knowledge in adapting text editors to work with, and automatically update user profiles, fictions, or other text additions.
Anyway, this way, everything on BaltoSource would be synchronized with the forum. And it is easier to control as well, since registering on the website would also take part in the forums, and I believe the forums have means of ensuring that no bots can register (although I know that you have some different way of blocking them from BaltoSource already, so I guess that's not a problem).
Also, the forum has a banning solution that I believe is much more powerful than the ban system we are currently using (at least SMF's is, dunno about PhPBB), and we can moderate it easier.
Anyway, going back on-topic, I do believe quizzes are doable. I mean, a basic quiz can be a question with some answers (poll-like script), followed by another one, and another one, with a script running when you click submit that processes the answers and calculates how many % you got right and what you got wrong. Perhaps even possibly showing the wrong answers?
