OK, before I start, let me say this: I support Ralph/Dusty 100%. I am not a devoted Kodi/Dusty fan.

Got that? Good.

As I have an interest in writing, and I'm not too bad at it (if I do say so myself), I've decided to take a shot at a Balto fanfic that doesn't necessarily "follow my rules". I feel that the key to success is to branch out a bit, and that includes writing about things that I don't agree with. The Kodi and Dusty romance is a prime example, so I decided to try my hand at that.
I wanted an original idea, not the romances you see every day. It also had to tie in with WoC - it IS, after all, based off that. So, I came up with an idea that I like (not going to say what it is, so if you're interested you'll have to keep reading!), and I hope you will too, despite the... odd pairing.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... Teamwork.



Chapter One:
"Kodi, would you please focus?!"
The red and white husky snapped out of his dreamy state and hastily picked up his pace. "Sorry, Kirby," he grinned, blushing. He growled at himself as punishment for his stupid actions. Now was not the time to think about...
Kodi sighed. He couldn't help it. But still, he had to pay attention when he was running. He'd nearly stepped in a huge hole the other day because he was craning his neck to look at the dog behind him. Now, because of him, the team would be late delivering the mail again. It wouldn't be long before he was kicked off the team altogether.
He was lucky his friends - Kirby, Ralph and Dusty - were so forgiving. Kirby was a relaxed kind of guy, and he just laughed at Kodi when he slipped up. Ralph didn't care either way. And Dusty...
Kodi sighed again. He couldn't stop thinking about her. Her dazzling indigo eyes, the way her silvery fur glistened in the sun, and how her sleek body rippled as she ran.
But who was he kidding. She had her eye on Ralph, and his on her. They'd liked each other since Kodi joined the team, about a year ago.

Finally, the team of six pulled up outside the post office. As Kodi had predicted, they were late. He hung his head in shame, and refused to talk to anyone. He wouldn't even look at his teammates.
When he'd slipped out of his harness, he slunk off to the beach, where he planned to sit and mope for a while. He planted himself in the shadow of his father's boat, curled up, and closed his eyes.
After about five minutes, a soft voice reached his ears. "Kodi?"
The quarter-wolf raised his head. Upon hearing the voice, he hadn't registered how familiar it was, but when he saw the dog standing before him, his heart skipped a beat. It was Dusty.
"Still sulking about the run today, huh?" She smiled. Kodi tried to smile back, despite his terrible mood.
"You know, Kodi," Dusty said. "Being a little bit late isn't a huge deal. We still delivered the mail, right?" With that, she playfully shoved his shoulder. Kodi felt butterflies in his stomach.
"Um... err... well, I, um, guess so," he stammered.
"Exactly," the grey Husky said. "So stop moping! Come down to the beach with us!" Kodi hadn't noticed that Kirby and Ralph were standing nearby and watching. He was a little disappointed, as he felt they'd ruined his chance to make a move on Dusty, but her friendliness had put him in a good mood.
He smirked at her. "Go down to the beach with you? You'll have to beat me there!" He barked, and took off running. Maybe the day wasn't completely wasted.

i liked it actually, kodi's crush is rather cute and kind of reminds me of Balto and Jenna before the pups

Well, I just don't really support Kodi and Dusty because Ralph/Dusty was implied in WoC (and I just think Ralph and Dusty look good together ). Don't get me wrong, though, if Kodi and Dusty had ever been hinted in the movie, I'd accept them as a good couple.
