I've always enjoyed the specualtion given to the dog who tries to move to Jenna but is pulled away. Yes the obvious thing is that it's a dog who finds Jenna attractive and pulls on his leash towards her, thats the obvious thing that requires no thinking whatsoever as it's clear as crystal. However the way dog is on his own with no other love struck dogs (Unlike the eariler scene with the camera focused on the three female dogs sighing and looking lovestruck at Steele as he races past) and the slight non-focus on him as he is in the background makes me think the producers or animators had something alterior to the dog.
In most cartoon scenes where a female character reels in the appraise of other background characters there is usually a focus on the others as they gaze or rush towards the female character. In this scene there is dialogue going on between Jenna, Sylvia and Dixie whilst the dog pulls at his leash with the three not seeing him. The fact that the scene isn't centered on the dog or even much recognition given to him could just mean the animators wanted to fit something more subtle in about Jenna's looks as a dog and decided to do it that way. Although I think differently mainly because the dog seems so isolated or different from the rest of the animals, a simple background dog is just a short squat husky like the other 3 on Steele's team who have no names but this dog clearly looks defined and the way he is drawn and animated makes it seems as if he does have some history or other purpose behind him, whether or not this was by chance from the animators or me looking too deep into things I can't say but I think the dog did have another purpose either in the film or early concept drawings for another dog, such as Balto as people say.
So yes whilst the scene is just showing a dog pulling on the leash towards Jenna I at least like to think that there was further thought and process behind the making of this dog.

Well, I think that dog was the old design 4 Balto, but the artists didn't want to throw away the design. I think that they wanted to use the same structure, but not the same exact features. I think it's highly unlikey that that could be the old design for Aleu becasue when they mad Balto 1 they didn't plan on making a Balto 2. They did make a Balto 2, but they didn't know they were going to when they made Balto 1. Get what I mean?

plus, you know the part where Balto is falling because when he was racing Nikki kicked him? Well when Balto fell at that moment he kinda looked like that dog. He had a blackish brownish color for just a second there. Or at least that's what I saw. I don't know if the pic will come out, but below I put a picture of the scene I'm talking about.
