I thought I'd post this to inspire others. I just brought some 'Pitbull truth' into my school, and I've been asked to do it again with some other classes.
Today(Monday, April 07) at Lunch we were on the topic of dogs. My friend was talking about her pitbull puppy. Somebody rudely said, " Pitbulls should die! They're too dangerous to be kept as pets!!!" My friend, of course, was feeling hurt by this comment. Then a argument broke out whether pitbulls are nice dogs, or should be banned. I couldn't take this. I had to stop this argument. So I stood up the dogs I love, and made a small speech. " Pitbulls aren't all that bad! Sure, they may have been bred for fighting but that was ancient times! We shouldn't hold that against them. Pitbulls have feelings too, just like all creatures do. Pitbulls can be loveable and kind! It's the owner not the dog. If a dog grows up in a violent family, it will be violent! If it grows up in a kind family, it will be kind. We shouldn't hold the past against them. I don't hold the past against any of you! Do you think that's fair when all Pitbull's want is a decent life, and all they get is a life filled with hate? If you do, I dub thee crazy. Because no, no it's not fair. Also, all dogs are desendants of the wolf. So if you say pitbulls should go, might as well kick your own dog out too. " This stopped the argument, thankfully. It seems that my math teacher had over heard, and she told the Principal. So now I've been asked to give this 'speech' in some other classes, just because they're tired of listening to this topic too since it happens daily in our school. Anyways, I hope this has at least inspired you a bit, to stand up for pitbulls. :3

JerseyCaptain wrote: How in the world do you know what pit bulls want? I direct you to my initial comments HERE: http://baltosource.timduru.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=20435I see no desire or interest at all in "standing up" for this breed. It's just too much of a problem...because of the idiots who think it's a macho status symbol, conferring them with some imaginary power and influence over others. People who revel in the fear the breed causes in good, decent, average citizens. And then there's the dog fighters. And even reputable breeders just CANNOT control that. PERIOD. Listen, I HAVE OWNED PITBULLS. They're quite sweet dogs, and most of them have been afraid of people due to past abuse they've received. When it's a normal dog people give them good homes. For pitbulls I've received comments like, " Pitbulls need to be taken off the face of the Earth." At least I have the guts to stand up for these dogs. How would you feel if your buddy was taken away?

it's funny how i find you in all the dog problems .. we all see that you have opinion but you just try to make it worst not helping others understand... and i work with some pitbulls that were abandoned and some can't get the treatment.. they are wonderful dogs.. and the reason why these dogs are chosen by people is again cuz of their past and they have strong jaw muscles and have this trigger in mind to have a "lock-jaw".. which of course isn't a good thing.. yes the breeding should stop by these so called "breeders" but the real breeders who are registered in any kennel have every right and it's their job to keep the breed alive.. to be honest.. any dog can go vicious.. even a lab yes a lab.. a golden, a yorkie, any ***** dog you can think of .. anyone can make it a bad dog.. how ?! well you ask the owners.. i've seen pretty nasty dogs.. pitbulls have every right to live just like us.. you don't see us killing banning people who seem to kill and fight... i'm not being racist plz .. but black people are blamed for everything .. they're found in a lot of criminal shows.. they're the ones that are always prone to shoot someone.. or kill someone or fight... and no one can deny this cuz we all know it's true... i know many black friends who couldn't be any nicer they're amazing people .. now do you see us getting rid of them?! hunh of course not!!!! cuz they're human but since it's an animal and they have no stand to this.. they're invulnerable to say anything to why they do this... and you have a point Chance.. and you should join us to stop the banning of the Bully Breeds ..

*sigh* The thing some people can't seem to get through their heads is that Pittbulls were originally bred to fight dogs, not people dogs. They were specifically trained\bred NOT to bite people in order to pull the dogs apart from each other when the owners have decided the fight is over. So, yeah, Pittbulls were originally trained\bred not to bite people but, dogs. Now, I'm not saying they can't and won't bite people. I know they do, any dog can. As you can understand, these days, people train them poorly and sloppily or simply, stupidly, train them to attack people and other living beings. Another thing, I'm also not just protecting Pittbulls, I'm also against stereotyping against other misunderstood breeds (German Shepherds, Akitas, Rotties ect..). In my eyes, saying all Pittbulls a vicious is like saying all Asians are super intelligent.

Well, personally, I do believe that pit bulls were originally bred to fight (hence the name 'Pit' and 'Bull'), and that makes them more susceptible to be violent than other dogs. However, when everything comes down to finals, it is ultimately the owners that are to blame for their dog's behaviour (unless said dog has some mental illness).
I strongly doubt that pit bulls are violent towards humans and other dogs by nature, but the owners make them. The reason pit bulls are so popular in dog fights is because they are easily trained to be fighting dogs, and they can easily turn violent because of their genetic composition.
The breed has it's ups and downs, but I don't really like Pit Bulls myself. They are a bit too ugly for my taste (I prefer the Wolfdogs, or larger dog breeds like St. Bernhard).

Eh, not just Pitbulls, they're just one of the more well-known breeds.
ANY dog has the capability of attacking other animals or people. From chiuauaua's (sp?) to German Shepherds and Saint Bernards. There's no point fighting over it really, I'm pretty sick of so many arguments/topics/talks about this, online or off.
BTW, quit the fighting in here.
