RENT-Coming to an END??

I just noticed after browsing the RENT (the Broadway Musical) website (as seen here)that it is about to close!

The reason(Quoted from Wikipedia):

On January 16, 2008 the production's website announced that the musical would end its 12-year-run on June 1, 2008.[37] No reason was given in the announcement, but, according to League of American Theaters and Producers, ticket sales were down, and box office figures showed that the production was playing at approximately fifty-percent capacity.[37] However, Rent 's run at the Nederlander Theatre has been extended through September 7, 2008[38] Over the course of the production's 12-year run, there will be a total of about 5,000 performances, making Rent the seventh-longest-running Broadway show,[5] with a production gross of over $280 million.[6]

Other information can be found on the website, I just wanted to let the fans of the show know. (This came as a surprise to me, as I haven't even SEEN the Broadway version yet!)

Yeah, I know.

But my friend had told me that Les Miserables, another popular show, had closed and re-opened (most likely due to popular demand). I have a feeling RENT will, too. From what it looks like on the site, there's A LOT of fans.

I really hope so, it would be a shame if swwuch a great musical closed and won't re-open, but you're right, there's still lots of RENTheads, i'm a RENThead too, so they should re-open

*sighs* Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, I'm still a RENThead too! I really do hope that they do re-open...

I remember when RENT was big... 13 years ago, though I know it's older. I just became aware of it in the 90s after a friend went to see the Broadway show in NYC. Popularity waxes and wanes, I wouldn't worry about it. Besides musicals never really die, you just have to look for them. *nods* Besides, RENT has been made into a feature-length film, so you can watch that even if you can't go to Broadway in NYC to see the live show.

Personally, I'm sick of RENT... But please don't kill me. After hearing those songs off and on for the past 13 years, it got annoying... Especially "Seasons of Love", which is currently playing back in my head. *sigh*

Yes, I believe it was made about 12 years ago (correct me if I'm wrong, though)
