Possible that they could have been eaten or just left and gone elsewhere, cats often just go and find a new home if they decide they don't like the one they have anymore.

You could build a cat-run?
It's like a big cage normally attached to your house and normally with a cat flap leading to it.

well maybe the cats know the presence of the coyote and they surely fle because of that, they might not feel safe in there and surely flee to a safer place.

Otherwise they were eaten.

Chances are, they just got loose, like alot of cats.
