I saw this on another forum, and it got quite good discussion. Maybe it will here, too.
Debating will probably be present.
So then...
Which came first? The chicken, or the egg?
I'll post my opinion later on.

The egg.
I say that coz dinosaurs first evolved to lay eggs and some groups of dinosaurs evolved into chickens, therefore, eggs came before chickens.

I say the chicken came first. (For bible references, but let's not start a flame war)

It depends on what you believe in.. religion or science/evolution If you're strongly religious you will say the chicken, if you believe in science/evolution you will say the egg. Or if you're inbetween, then you won't really be able to choose one over the other. Personally I go with science and that the egg came first.

I think the chicken. Because if the egg was first it would need a chicken to keep it warm and protect the egg.
Oh, and I don't say the chicken because of a religion. Thats just what I think.

It's like what I thought, let's say like...before the appearance of the dinosaurs, most life forms on Earth was primitive cells that reproduce by dividing into more cells, after some thousand years, to the time of the Dinosaurs, then the Dinosaurs somehow evolved into an another kind of creature, so the evolutionary process could have happened when they are outside of the egg/larva, which then turned to some new creatures and that creature could have laid eggs that produced its own kind and on and on,etc. To put it short: A creature evolved into a chicken and then laid eggs, which more of the same kind came out, then are cared for and thus continue the circle of life. The eggs alone would be impossible to hatch without the hen's care.

I believe neither came first. It seems logical that something continued to evolve, each evolution resembling the animal in which we call "chicken". So, I think it's a process that took place over a long period of time until something popped out of an egg that looked like a chicken.

The chicken. I think that all creatures suddenly appeared somehow on earth [though we may never know exactly how], and therefore I believe that the chicken layed the egg and kept it warm. How would the egg survive otherwise? It could be argued that the egg's mother could be missing a few genes to be called a chicken, but such genes could be present within the creature in the egg, resulting in the first actual chicken.
