Why is it that alot of people are afraid of being banned? Its a balto site, not a being afraid of being banned site. And please, no ban talk in the sb, it only makes it worse. Who agrees?

Banning is used as a means of control, not really as an oppressive measure. It can be taken to oppressive levels, however. people need not fear banning, it is simply a security measure taken against people that are consistently breaking the site rules, even after having been warned multiple times.
Now, bannings are dished out unjustly sometimes. But that's just something people have to deal with. I realize it is easier said than done, however it could be worked out through contacting the webmaster.
All in all, don't fear bannings. Follow the rules and everything should be fine. If you do get warned for something, just stop doing it and it should be fine.

The whole purpose of banning is so that people don't want to be banned so they don't do those things. You're meant to be afraid to some extent! Otherwise we'd all run amuk if we felt like it.

Generally speaking 'ban talk' only comes around when there is someone in danger of being banned - when that individual is doing something he or she shouldn't. And that usually comes after a second warning. It's a compounded warning, really - similar to what a parent does when a child acts out of line. Like so:
Kid: *doing something he shouldn't* Parent: *catches kid* Stop that! Kid: *keeps doing it* Parent: Keep it up and you're grounded without internet and cell privileges. Kid: *shrugs and keeps doing it* You can't ground me! Parent: I'm serious. Kid: *shrugs* Parent: That's it, you're grounded.
On Balto Source's SB, it would go something like this: Member: LIEK OMG! U R AWESOME! Mod: No caps, no SMS Member: *ignores the mod* U R SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOMEEE!!!111 Mod: Don't spam, cut it with the caps, and no SMS. It's against the rules. Member: LIEK NO WAIIIIII! U CANT BANNN MEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *spam continues* Mod: Please stop, you're on your final warning. Member: *spams the box* LIEK NO U CANT BANNNN MEEEE! I IS AWESOMEEEEE! U FAIL! I PWN! *spam continues* Mod: *annoyed* Have fun in the ban box. *bans member*
And we don't enjoy banning people.
So really, as long as you follow the rules of the site, there isn't any reason to be afraid.

If one is a good member and doesn't break rules (which is not hard to do at all), why should they be afraid of banning? There must be some means by which to hold law and order, so that all members could enjoy it to some extent, and of all ages at that. Very personal stuff, or "tabu stuff" is meant for private messengers (hint: note the word "private"), but not for Balto and TLK fan sites. I agree that "ban talk" shouldn't take place in the SB. It's pretty ridiculous. Besides, the site isn't a reality show with the winner being "the one to last the longest". Quite humorous Banning is for the safety and well-being and the protection of members

If you wouldn't fear of being banned, then there would be no point in banning... Although, as other members said, if you respect the rules and answer correctly to the warnings, you don't have any reason to be banned. This is only a matter of forcing everyone to respect the rules and avoid getting the other visitors offended.

I see, but i dont understand whats wrong with all caps. You dont have to type all caps to shout. When we use exlamiation marks, we are shouting. And I find all caps esier to read. Just tying to make a point.

In the end, it doesn't matter what you, or I, or any other single person thinks. There is an established standard of etiquette even on the internet - and there is no excuse not to comply. Here, here! *gives JC a standing ovation* If you want to make a point, do it the right way - follow the rules and you won't get banned. That makes sense, right? - Juuchan17
