I'm not sure. I don't like it when a happy ending just seems 'tacked on,' because it can feel forced and unrealistic. I like a good old sad ending for variety, but sometimes if you just have an ending where 'everyone suddenly dies,' it feels that you have wasted your time following the plot and all. The best sad endings are ones that are poignant and send across a message. Bittersweet endings are almost always great, in my opinion. They can be moving but they don't leave you feeling utterly depressed or make it as though you wasted your time. I think that filmmakers should do more bittersweet endings, and make them satisfying too - I don't want anymore sequels.

I like happy endings but not like "I love you, Johnny wonny!" "I love you to, June! LETS GET MARRIED!!!" Then they lived HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!! I like happy endings that aren't sappy but not sad. Because the main character and some of his/her friends wont die.

Hm. Not all movies have happy endings. It really just depends on the genre. If you're watching a Disney/Dreamworks-esque animated film, odds are, there's going to be a happy ending. If you're watching action/adventure/horror/sci-fi/romance/non-mainstream - the PG-13 and up types, the endings are more varied. I think it's because that most American parents want to give their children the happy-ever-after, good always wins over evil, picture. More or less, a cultural indoctrination of youth into thinking in the particular dichotomy of wrong and right (in other words, in the films you want to be like the good guy and not like the bad guy if you wanna get what you want). If you watch a lot of the older Disney films, for instance, there is a concrete bad guy/villain and a concrete good guy/hero, who cannot do anything outside of their pre-set character. Other films, again the PG-13 and up, take a more realistic approach - in which the bad guy isn't always utterly bad and the good guy isn't utterly good - i,e - the characters appear more human, (except perhaps some horror films, in which the bad guy is psychotic and the good guys are utterly stupid).

Tani, i do agree with you. The happy endings are way too predictable. So, let's all team up, and become producers to films dedicated to the Villan's stories. Who said the Evil Step Mother was evil? maybe she just wanted to be rich..hm? ever think about that? And what about poor, poor Scar. All he ever wanted was to rule the PrideLands. Did he? yes..but the land became dark, and depressing. Everything died..and nobody really gets why.. Poor Scar was always put down by his more superior brother. Let's hear HIS story. ^^

I am tired of happy endings. Telling the truth, I like it better where the story concludes that everything is ''suposedly'' a happy ending, but they don't realize that the danger is now much more threatning than before. Yep, that would be a nice ending, and no sequels. Those just ruin everything. T-T Personally, good endings result too much these days. One would prefer, the main character dies but saves everything. And not to change subject, but sequels seem like it's all about the return of a character, the main character's daughter and all that. I'd like an ending with some sort of surprise. That'd be fun :3

I like some happy endings. I'd hate to fall in love with a character and that character ends up dieing. I like them living.

You just watch the wrong movies.
There are plenty of movie without happy endings, you're just not looking hard enough.

Quote: I used to be a happy ending fan. Now im sick of it, there are too many where the guy wins the girl and were all happy chappies. Well the villian is normally more powerfull, yet he doesn't win. Disney much? Not all happy endings are predictable and "fluffy". There are many exciting, unpredictable movies out there where good wins over evil. If you're wanting a story about evil, then all you have to do is search in the right places.

sick and tired.
its predictable. its mushy. its not like that in real life.
in real life we dont always get what, who or where we want. sometimes, we just have to take life as it comes, just keeping going with your head down and mouth shut. we've all had our fair share of disapointments. most films with happy endings are for young children, and i understand that companies dont want to be sued for giving those children nightmares. but it teaches them nothing of the world. some children grow up thinking that life is all a big fairytale and they will always end up happy and get what they want. but then they enter the big wide world and the shock of finding out this is not the case hits them like a slap in the face.
yes, i am having a moan.
*sighs*
i just find myself getting jealous when everything turns out fine for the charecters in films and tv programs and not in my life.
some films are out numbered by good points to make you think about the happy ending, such as balto. but a film such as amagedon or a program such as doctor who when the main charecter(s) have to make a sacrifice is more appealing to me. like ive repeated in my little complaint above, life isnt perfect...
