Man I was lurking on the site and I found some people ranting at some popular artists about, very stupid things, ore some whinners feeling bad about theirart, ones were (I won't tell, whom they were):

Popular artists always get what they want.

OMG youre so popular, a lot of people visit youre gallery , no one likes my art.

Im not popular because I make requests for everyone.

Really, people here are so annoying on this terms, and please tell me what you thing.I also were a starter artist two years ago, good practice will make you improve.

I think that may be a part of it, what you described which could be attributed as envy or perhaps even jealousy (which is dumb - no one has any reason to be envious or jealous of anyone else...popularity does come with time, dedication and improved talent). Personally, I am not a competing artist, so envy and jealousy are irrelevant to me...as is the popularity of any artists here. To me, they are just people...they hold no special attention or regard from me.

However, there are other aspects to that, and you can see it in OTHER topics. And, in these cases, the complaints are usually QUITE warranted and valid. One of the most important, and relevant to Balto Source/Animation Source, is the tendency of the popular artists (regardless of the relative "talent" they may or may not have) to develop swelled heads...egos which border on the ridiculous. They become insufferable...self-absorbed...self-important...selfish...holier-than-thou...critical...bombastic...etc. (and can lead to them being mean-spirited bullies online). Who wants to deal with the ego of some person who happens to draw attention because of some artwork that is (or only may be) good in the opinions of some? I certainly don't. Especially given the fact that, among Balto and Lion King fan artists (most of whom have accounts on such art sites as deviantArt), there is very little real originality and unique style. In fact, most of the styles come down to knock-offs of one or more of four popular animation looks:

1. Disney/Don Bluth

2. anime/manga

3. other (Universal, Warner Brothers, MGM animated characters)

4. "furry"

To see fan artists spend so much time venting their spleens over the way others "copy" or "pirate" their styles, poses, etc. is unbelievable...and the attitudes laughable. Especially considering that most of these artists are hardly original themselves...and most have simply copied an existing style someone ELSE did (profesionally as opposed to amateurishly).

Yes, there are some fan artists whose work I like. But I am no drooling fan of any of them, nor do I worship at ANY of their feet...like so many kids and teens do here, on deviantArt and elsewhere, which only adds to the insufferability of some of those egos. Those same "worshippers" often make the situation worse by ganging up upon, and flaming and bullying, anyone who might have less than a worshipful attitude towards their favorite artists. :x Which those artists often do absolutely nothing to stop. (Need I remind anyone of how tense and temperamental the topic about Kay Fedewa's comic was on this board? That topic was an ideal example of what I've been saying. Just as many of the rants about art on this board have been.)

I'm not trying to start anything but I noticed that you said "Furry" And also mentioned deviantArt more then once like they were bad or something. What do you mean when you mention these things? Alot of BSers are furries and also use deviantArt. Do you have anything aginst these things? (keep in mind I'm not trying to start anything I'm just wondering why and where you stand on these)

That does get annoying, especially when people deliberately post things like "No one like my art ]: I wish people would look more" Just so people will fave their gallery and say "No! I love/like your art, you're really good!!" which in turn means more talented artists (Sorry, it's the truth!) Tend to get less faves than they deserve while much less talented artists or one's who need much more practice and improvement end up on the first page of the fan art gallery.
I have noticed quite a lot of galleries recently that have made it on the first page when they just don't deserve to be there by number of faves, in my own opinion I think most belong on pages 5-lower.
I shan't name any galleries because that would be unfair to all concerned but what I will say is, I also noticed my own gallery had ended up on the first page a while ago and again, it did not deserve to be there, of course I like it when people fave me but I think I belong on pages 3-lower, 2 if I improve greatly in a short space of time.

Friend faves are also annoying. I myself won't fave someone because they are my friend, I can use the friend system on dA or MSN for that type of thing.

What JerseyCaptain also highlighted is a bigger problem though. Artists who became popular and newer people automatically fave them because they are so popular and those artists then become "full-of-it" and feel as though they can say what they want and openly bash other people and get 'support' from their fans, who generally act like obsessed stalkers anyway, and seem to get away with it. Any person who dare critique their fave artist is flamed like there's no tomorrow and said artist does nothing about it except watch and add the odd snide comment against that person, thus fuelling their little army of fans.

The Internet is like a global high school. And in most (but not all) of the communities I have been in, especially those involving animals - especially dragons and wolves and cats - the super popular artist is often the case akin to either the jock or the cheerleader - you know, the sort who are constantly being followed by a group of adorers. But that's how it is all over the Internet - even in groups of adults.

Which is, in my opinion, beyond lame.

JC - you might want to check out the book Against the Machine: Being Human in the Age of the Electronic Mob which talks about the social aspects of the Internet. I've yet to read it, but I haven't found it at the library yet ><

Then you've misunderstood me. I was simply saying that this is one art style in use in repetetive frequency by these so-called "original" fan artists. This statement was not a castigation of furries. The reason why the word furry is in quotes is because it is a term used by a certain community of people...and one which is not generally known. Most people might see furry art and simply call it "anthro".

Though you do know, by now (from past history), my personal opinion of that community in general. And we needn't rehash it, right? I can't change who I am and how I feel about that, and neither can you change who you are or how you feel about certain things which don't generally sit well with you (few people can). Anyway, I prefer the peaceful interaction, don't you? I'm sure we'd both like it to stay that way. In any case, my personal opinion of furries in general did not enter into my previous statement. If I was castigating anyone, I was going after egomaniacal, namby-pamby fan artists (who are but a percentage of all fan artists...people who generally DON'T have bad egos) who have allowed the popularity they've gained, from the overreaction of a handful of minors to their amateur works of "art", to go completely to their heads.

EDIT: I'd like to share with all the readers of this topic a very interesting article, which appeared on MSN's home page this morning, which is relevant not only to my initial complaint in this topic, but many others posted by myself AND others on this forum. It's...it's as if the people referenced in that article, who are problem cases, are Balto Source members themselves! Or learned how to behave on the internet from this community! See for yourself (pay particular attention to the examples on pp. 1-2 of the story, which are VERY much like the kinds of behavior seen on this site...of course, so is the example on pg. 3...and that particular example goes to what I pointed out about oddball kids who fawn over a fan artist, and then gang up on anyone who dares to say anything less than worshipful stuff about that artist they love so much): http://tech.msn.com/news/articlepcw.aspx?cp-documentid=6411895&icid=tg6411895&GT1=40000

Ah, I see what you mean and I agree with you to a certain point. But I see what you mean.

I have seen it a few times.

A few members ranted on someone popular, like Catwhohas14tails or Deni.

The member would say ' Oh your the best artist in the world ' ' I am so jealous ' That kinda stuff.

Like, people, there is no best or worst in the world. Even " Scribbles " is art. Getting paint on your old clothes, then starting to be funny, and painting all zig zags is art.

Nobody is the best artist in the world, and people should know that.

Kepru, I think people should see very special art, by a very special person, like you, more times.

I generally agree with what you're saying. Although, there are some well-known artists that have the maturity (or rather the common sense) not to let the "fame" to get to their heads..Don't get me wrong though, I agree. It's very annoying when "popular" artists have an enflated ego because other people..that mostly aren't their friends..are crazy over their art..O.o

Answers for those stupid quotes:

'Popular artisrs always get what they want'
Because you obey them.

'OMG youre so popular, a lot of people visit youre gallery , no one likes my art.'
Do we have to care about it?Your problem.

'Im not popular because I make requests for everyone.'
If the popular artists accepted requests, they'd receive more than 1000 requests everyday. They're not machines.

Wow. Good answers.
