In my neighbourhood, there are many owned dogs whose owners let them roam. This is getting quite annoying, since I walk my golden retriever, Duke, every morning before school and after school. We call the pound and the dogs are sometimes picked up, but their owners always get them back. I am afraid that an aggersive dog may approach and injure Duke or me.
Here are the loose dogs-
Brady- a black labra-doodle whom jumps on me
Miranda- an elderly golden retriever who just rests in her front yard and from the same house as Brady
Trooper- a fox-red lab mix who is very dominent
A German shepherd who is territorial and dog-aggersive
A boxer/pitbull. Not much is known about it except it lives in the same house as the Gerrman shepherd
Help!!! :wangry: This infuriates me!

Here's what I would do; if you see them get as far away from them as you can. Make sure that your atleast a block away or so and keep walking, and never run away from them! Or they'll chase you.

Well, if the dogs are STILL roaming even after you've called the pound... have you tried making a formal complaint? Or written to the newspaper (not sure where you live, but in New Zealand you can write about issues that need to be addressed)?

I'm pretty sure action would be taken and rules tightened if you kept on perservering. Good luck!

If the area isn't very busy and the dog has enough sense to stay out of the way of moving vehicles or do damage to other people's property, then I see no reason why they shouldn't be left to roam.

Because it's illegal and can be dangerous - not just to the dogs themselves, but to passers-by.

I once saw a lady with her chihuahua off lead and the Chihuahua attacked a Maltese walking close by. There was a strugle for a moment but that was it and I heard the women tell the lady with the chihuahua that he shouldn't be left off lead. Irisponsible people...

Um, let's not let breed stereotyping get into this discussion, please. Not all pitbulls are bad.

It would be completely unfair to just punish the pitbull's owner and not the owners of the other breeds. All the dogs need to stop roaming.

No offense Shaggy, BUT NO ALL MOTHERFREAKIN' PITBULLS ARE MEAN D: I hate that stereotype, SO DON'T YOU DARE GIVE INTO THE DUMB STORIES D: Pitbulls weren't bred to kill, they were bred to guard and hunt D: Pitbulls are usually provoked. And the news changes the stories around to make them bigger news D:
Anyways, we have the same problem. My neighbor's black lab named Maggie runs loose through the neighborhood and usually tries to eat the stuff(Bread, and such.) that we put out for the birds, squirrels, and a woodchuck who came at Halloween to eat our pumpkins D< Recently they put up a fence around their backyard where Maggie can play and run around without getting herself in trouble. Simple solution to a "big" problem, Am I right? :3

I mean that as in wandering through places such as fields and woods where humans scarely go, and the dog will only attack if a threat is posed.

Still, it would be foolish of an owner to happily let their dog roam -anywhere- unattended. People steal dogs, dogs get lost, dogs damage property, wild animals attack... IMO, if one can't contain their dog with a proper fence, they shouldn't have a dog.
