I'm gonna say...my dad controls the passwords to my computer, so it's kind of a rare treat for me to get on whenever I can. So naturally, I head to the shout boxes to make fun of a few members. I won't say all the time, but more often than not, the conversation somehow escalates to art -- in some form or another. And it hurts me when people say, "Oh, I don't draw...I just write."
Err...hullo? Writing's a talent too.
I don't know why most of the members here regard the ability to draw as the highest-ranking talent there is. I mean, seriously. It's like you're nothing if you can't draw. And many of you know, some people just don't have the self-esteem to be content with themselves the way they are.
I, myself, am not a drawer. Mind you, I said "drawer," not "artist." Because art has a variety of different forms [literature, stagecraft, interior decorating, culinary arts, and much more]. I mean, how totally BORING would the world be if everyone could draw [well]? No offense to all you artists, but I would much rather NOT spend my precious computer hours clicking through fanart. Maybe one or two. Maybe a comment. That's it. And really, that's all I want to see.
I suppose the point I'm trying to get at is to try and get people to
EXPAND. XD Go out and explore other things in the world. Many of you are good at something, and [I really don't know any nice way to put this -- Sorry] based off of a short trip into the fanart section, I must say that some of you should have drawing, like...at number ten down your list. Now, I understand the process takes a while to become "good" and that we all have to start off somewhere. I understand that. But what "good" is it when you don't improve? You simply stick with the same styles over and over again, drawing pretty much the same thing. Have you even tried...Watercolor? Charcoal? Scratch pad? Ceramic figurines? Origami? See, there's a whole world of different mediums, and I
IMPLORE you to try some of them out.
Let's move away from the picture category. Let's talk literature. Because I like literature. But let's be frank...if I'm not going to click through fanart -- which, in most instances, you spend a heart to make, but people only take seconds to appreciate -- I'm DEFINITELY not going to spend a heck of a longer time flipping through fanfics. I'm sorry. Why is it that fanfics don't get as much appraisals as fanart does? How often do the mods come across "fanfic theft?" [Well...that'd be called "plagiarizing," and is frowned upon in most societies.

] What makes writing so perceptibly subordinative to drawing? Is it because they think its so much easier to sit on a numb butt pecking at the keyboard all day? Teehee...sorry to burst your bubble, but it's a lot more complicated than that.
And what mediums, you ask, are available for writing? Hmm...let's see. Have you tried...Poetry? Allegories? Plays? Satires? A How-To? A journal? There's much more to writing than "Once upon a time," I'm afraid. And once you begin to explore those realms, THAT is what TRULY makes you great at what you do.
One other thing, my lovelies, then you may tar and feather me as you wish. Whatever you do, JUST FRIGGIN' DO IT. Lol. And I really hope you aren't pursuing these things for the kudos. Do you draw or write ONLY for the comments? Pfft...people read your stories and see your art. The moment they click that BACK button, it's out of their heads, usually forever. So don't waste your time. Do what you do for YOU and you alone. This will be your most important lesson. Once you get this concept down, gimmie a call once you take over the world.
