Well, I find myself with more "multi-topic rants" lately. Lets get this thing started, shall we?
**** "NOOBS," OR NEW MEMBERS ON A WEBSITE. ****
Yes, we've all been one. However, this is how I see it -- a "newbie" isn't just someone who is new on a website, but their level of understanding for the site rules. For example: Someone is a member for well over a year but breaks the rules left and right. They get called a "newb," and fight against it.
However, by not familiarizing yourself with the site, you're still a newbie! I don't care what your best friend says, or what your profile "joined date" says. If you act like the rules don't exist, and act like you're better than other members, you're still a newbie!
Don't get me wrong -- I like my share of new people. I even try to befriend them. However, I try to make them as aware of the rules as possible! I mean, how many of us really read the rules when we first joined the site? By telling them the rules and what the consequence(s) (warning, or worse) could be, it's all on them. If they break the rules, they can't say "well, Kirada said...." because I try to tell you the rules as much as possible!
Do I cut some newbies some slack before banning them? Of course! I mean, you can't expect every 9+ year-old to go around reading more rules. However, I'm not that leiniant. I give them one more chance than I would for "regulars," so that's four chances instead of the regular 3. But, they're new, right? They shouldn't be banned on their first day of membership, right? Wrong. Wrong, so wrong. If you break the rules -- no matter how "fresh" or "old" you are on a site, you need to suffer the consequences!
Think of it this way -- if I didn't ban someone for breaking the rules, it's a similar situation to a man killing another man and the police letting them go because "it's their first crime." Given that the website is not that severe, it's still breaking the "site laws."
Moving on....
*****************************************
"Art theft." Yea. We've all heard of it. We've all done it in some way. Isn't this everyone's favorite topic? Personally, I don't like it. But I will gladly speak my two cents about it!
Becomming a fanart moderator, I have encountered more stolen pictures then I could ever imagine. I've recieved plenty of flames for deleting art theives' galleries, or the picture(s).
When I encounter art theives, I get that feeling of "I'm going to strangle you." Exspecially since I've known a couple of the artists who had their art stolen.
Even if you put "I don't own this image at all" and send it to your art gallery, it's theft. Your art gallery is yours. Same for profiles, for uncited pose references.
Given that some gets past me. But, I feel like an idiot afterwards for not seeing it. Trust me, I have a concious -- I feel guilty after deleting someone's hard work (being the pictures they actually drew) and banning them. But, I come across as "heartless" because I know I can't "care," otherwise I would sympethize and cut them some slack. Not what art theives deserve.
However, I will give them their gallery back (making them promise not to steal any more art, and I watch them very carefully). People have come to me, saying "When you ban an art theif on Balto Source, you just let them be when they 'get out' to committ the 'crime' again." I beg to differ. People don't see "behind the scenes."
I put what I call a "flag" in the moderator's shout box, telling all of the available moderators (and even some who see the message long after) to help me watch this person/persons.
Have I been there before? Of course. My art gallery was deleted once for "art theft" (uncited poses from Pample); but I swore that the citation was on the bottom of the image. Had I been able to get proof, via the picture, I would have fought the moderators.
Am I out to "get" a specific someone with this topic? No. It's this simple -- I'm fed up with all the crap. You people know the rules, and know a lot of the consequence. If not, you get told. What do most members do? Claim they own the picture(s) and do it again! Then they complain in the banned box saying they were "unfairly banned" and soon, turn the site against the moderator or other members who are their "friends."
Yet, when this happens, no one asks "Well, what did you do to get banned?" or "what rules did you multiply break?" It's always simple -- they never asked the banning moderator for the "other side of the story." Is it that hard? We mods won't flame a member for asking what all happened. Believe it or not.
Again, moving on.
~*~*~*~
"Insults."
Fact of life, correct? You'll face people calling you names and making fun of you. Sure. If you're still that immature. My resolve is so simple:
IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMEONE, DON'T SPEAK TO THEM. DON'T FLAME THEM JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE 'THERE!!'
In the case of "hating" a moderator, I say this -- do not speak to them unless it is site-related (question, concern, etc.). If there is another mod nearby, ask them, instead.
Now, will calling a moderator names help plead your case? NO! By doing that you only get yourself into trouble (or more trouble)! What usually happens after that is more "unfairly banned" complaints. Yet again, the user(s) leave out what they did to get there in the first place.
Now, don't get me wrong. I know this site is "full" of a bunch of young children. Do I really care? No. Some of them are actually pretty cool people. Friendly, nice to talk to, whatever. However, you have the majority who seem to think they own the place.
Guess what? You don't. The mods don't, either, we're simply the "police" for the site.
***************** -Random.- Do I expect anyone to read this rant in full? No. Bringing a smaller topic.
Some of you tend to be so closed-minded; nit-picking at certain points while rejecting an entire post. Is this important? YES. For example, I'm positive that somoene will miss an entire broad side of a mini-rant. Why? Because they're too lazy to read my full opinion or just don't care.
Now I'm being honest. Why? 'Cause I'm in pain. If you don't want to pay attention to my Point of View, then don't bother.
************************
Now I take this chance to apologize if I seem "too harsh," but it's the truth. Have I ranted too much? Not nearly. I have ranted twice in nearly the past year as opposed to some who rant daily. So, I ask you to simply respect my opinion and discuss it with me. NOT DEBATE (or 'argue').

A newbie does happen to be someone who is new on a website, or new to any other thing. And nothing more. There are varying terms used to describe certain kind of people. "Newbie" and "Noob" are two different things. A "Noob" is the "don't follow the rules" person. A "noob" is also the person who overuses the M16 on CoD4. -ahem, sorry. back on topic.- Quote: Do I cut some newbies some slack before banning them? Of course! Wrong. Wrong, so wrong. If you break the rules -- no matter how "fresh" or "old" you are on a site, you need to suffer the consequences! Agreeable, as long as you don't take this to extremities. Given that the website is not that severe, it's still breaking the "site laws." Okay, I thought of it that way. Now, think of it this way. If you don't be lenient with your members at times, you will lose the members. Remember, you need the members. Not the other way around. Quote: Now I'm being honest. Why? 'Cause I'm in pain. If you don't want to pay attention to my Point of View, then don't bother.
I see your point of view on these things, you've made it abundantly clear. If you don't want conflicting viewpoints on this though, go email this to yourself and tell yourself how you feel to yourself. This is a public forum, expect responses from other viewpoints. A lot of this isn't the truth. Then again, a lot of this can't be, because there are different viewpoints. You seem to be arguing your opinions in your rant, so I'll argue mine, thank you very much. And debate? You're dismissing debate here? -_- Some of the things you brought up are heavily debatable. And heh, the daily ranters. Good laugh, that. All in all, I think this rant is just a collection of opinion rather than fact, save for some of the points brought up about the art section. Hence the reason I didn't quote from there. Cheers to a decent rant, though. It's better than the usual junk that comes around these parts.

Cheers to a decent rant, though. It's better than the usual junk that comes around these parts. You know, I would like to give you an "F.Y.I." A "debate" is more like an argument, while a discussion is more calm; less argumentitve. As for the rant - it's opinion based on what I have seen. I didn't go around collecting various data and arranging them in numerical order. Sorry, I'm not a mathmetician. As far as I see, you are one of the people to nit-pick and choose out what it is you don't like, ignoring everything else shaping the rant. A "rant," in more than one view, is a matter of someone's opinion about a certain aspect on the site. Now, I've been a moderator since around last August - I've pretty much seen to bulk of what you people haven't seen. It's bad that when, you sign onto a site, five minutes later you feel like reaching through the screen and slapping someone in the face. Frankly I'm more belligerant right now than what I normally am. It's already been proven that, when I have any sort of injury, I tend to resort to violence quicker and I speak much louder. I drafted this, spending sometime around three days off an on writing it. Was it worth the effort? Sure. I wanted to discuss the points; not argue them. Sure, some of it can be debatable. Do I care? No. What I'm saying is; "If you don't respect my point of view, don't bother." In other words - if you have nothing nice to say - shut up.

Just to rectify with the general language of the internet:
Newbie: New member, thus the "new". They often don't know the rules of the site they're on, or the general lingo used. Noob: Someone who acts like a newbie but is not new at all. Generally breaks the rules a lot and acts rather inconsiderately to all others.

Anyways, Tulip has the definition correct. Now let's all use it correctly, k? Quote: What I'm saying is; "If you don't respect my point of view, don't bother." Oh, but I am respecting your point of view. And I have much to say on some of these things.

Very nice Kirada. I'd talk more, but I more or less just woke up ><
But anyway, arguing the finer points of 'newbie' and 'n00b' is rather pointless in my opinion - because I think the jist of what Kirada has said can be understood by all. I'm pretty sure that this site is one used more by fans than it is by hackers and channers. We can work on solid definitions later instead of arguing about it, especially when the rant isn't discussing it.
