Why must it be that, when I rant, I have a multi-rant? :]
***
The main topic of this -- comments in galleries (fictions, arts, images, whatever!) that are simply "That's nice, I like it" or "that's cool!" and "cool new ones!" (when you upload only ONE image).
Given, that these comments make the "maker of the media" happy. I mean, heck, they're comments! But I find it annoying when you get an abundance of those comments. If you ask me, it's a waste of space. If you want to say something is "cool" or "nice," do it. Put more heart into it!
I find it very enjoyable, let alone sincere, when a fellow BaltoSourcian comments me with insight. Example, you ask? Allow me to highlight a comment from Purple Pumpkin Seed that made me glee: "you draw banes amazingly dear! i like the way your fur looks aswell i cant do fur T_T z. "
Just her comment made my day. See? It's short, too the point, and still makes me happy. I also like comments that give me a kind critique. These help to develope my style and anatomy. Tell me, how does "That's awesome!!!11!!!1!!!!!!1" help me evolve my art? IT DOESN'T!
Does every person feel this way? I doubt it. I'm sure that other people are extremely happy to have comments at all (given that some people are still "evolving," people tend to care less for those who don't update often). I know how that feels. When my gallery was first started, I was in adoration of my 5 favorites. Now, I have 143 (and aiming for 150).
So, will you all seriously tell me where "cool," "that's nice," and "awesome" helps an artist evolve? It DOESN'T. Sure, thanks for the thought. But, geez, put heart into it. Show you REALLY care. I'm not directing this at anyone, but it's something that has annoyed me since I got my gallery.
So -- your thoughts. Feel free to be open-minded (without flaming, of course).

I totally agree Kirada -.-
I love to get comments, everyone does but I must admit I'm pretty disappointed when I scroll down to see "Nice pics" or "Cool new one", I like to get critique!! Preferably helpful critique that I think back to when I draw my next picture. An example of that is, a while ago I got a comment that said "Nice pic, I like the shading, the nose looks a little screwy though", then when I next drew a pic similar to that, I knew where I'd gone wrong and could improve on it.
It's nice to know someone took 3 minutes out of their lives to post a comment on my gallery but I'd much prefer something with a little bit of depth to it.

Silly, Kirada, you should know by now that people on this site don't know jacksquat about art, especially over how to go about showing appreciation for it.

viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15139A old, old rant I did which is found somwhere on page two. I agree with you completly. Somtimes, all I want to see is a constractive critque. Somthing to improve on. Things like 'Nice work. The neck looks a bit thin, and the eye should be over a bit' and all that stuff. Most galleries I see are just full of 'Awsome!' 'Faves' and 'Great work :]' However, it's not just Fan Art,. It's Fanfiction and articals as well ._. If only some people could just put some much needed effot into their comments.

Thank you for posting this. I simply cannot say anything else at the moment except for "I agree". I mean, We all love to get comments, but some are just made to made the artist happy.

I understand what you're saying, and that's commendable that you want to further develop your ability through critique. However, not being an art intellectual, sometimes I just like to simplify. A nice painting is, sometimes, just a nice painting. But that's just me.

As a fellow artist myself, I actually like receiving any type of comment for my work - whether it's a "Cool pics" or a complex "The way you draw *insert character here* is amazing . . . Your style of expression makes the character come alive . . . etc." means something to me. Heck, I'm just glad someone on this site actually notices my work (especially since there are plenty of better artists here than me . . . my art sucks IMO, but if people like it . . . why not post it, yes?)! Of course, that's just me. - Juuchan17

kirada, your post has struck me with irony. this is so factual, its not funny. artists and all other types of gallery artists, dont appreciate stupid comment like, wow, great job. it's just way to broad. for example, i like it SO much better when somebody comments on a particular peice, this helps me get an idea of what people like better so i will add more drawing, images, etc. like it. that will really help someone improve, a lot more than something like "cool, look at muy gallery", which is completely pointless.
