Walt Disney Animation Studios has finally shined the light back on to the beauty of 2D animation again with the upcoming 2009 movie,
The Princess and the Frog.

It has been over 10 years since the last movie of a Disney "princess" (Mulan). This upcoming movie has brought the Walt Disney Animation Studios vanity with the recognition of starring Disney’s first
African-American princess. There has indeed been controversy about making the character African-American. This started when she was given the "perceived stereotypically lower-class black" name "Maddy", and also giving her an occupation as a chambermaid. "This was interpreted by some as racist, and Disney acted swiftly in response" which was stated on Wikipedia.
The setting takes place in the 1920's Jazz Age, obviously in New Orleans. My guess is that they chose New Orleans to catch the audiences attention with the history, and also reminding them what it once was before Hurricane Katrina flooded everything.
The star is Princess Tiana, a girl "going on a journey of self-discovery with the help of a singing crocodile and some good ol’ Cajun magic and voo-doo" as Katey Rich from Cinema Blend states. Rich also says "Don’t even pretend to be surprised that Princess Tiana looks virtually just like every other Disney princess—ridiculously tiny waist, opulent dress, enormous eyes." I suppose this is true, but I honestly wasn't expecting Tiana to look much different from the rest of the Disney princesses.
I honestly believe that this movie will be very successful. ALOT of us have been craving for a new 2D animated Disney movie rather badly. Let's just hope in the near future that they keep up the traditional 2D. I bet Walt Disney himself would be rolling in his grave if he could see what Disney has done in the pass few years.
