Yes, that's true, an important artist has passed away...
If you look at his gallery, it's full of really wondeful posters. He worked for and made many posters for animation companies, and many animated films, INCLUDING Balto and The Lion King.
You ALL know his work, because it has been used for the official covers...

(I already knew about that one...And still wonder why it wasn't used for the official cover, as it would have been better IMO. Apparently they're saying it's unfinished, but why? Not sure that we will know...*sigh*)

I was wondering when something like this would happen, but : that's the first artist I know about who worked on the original Balto that passed away. That's definitely...a shock.

I much prefer that Balto picture as a cover....I can't see why they'd think it's unfinished =/

I'm updating my first post...I was wrong, he REALLY did the official covers for Balto and TLK

Ah! XD I like that cover, the US one was so much better than the one we got over here.

I love that second TLK poster! never seen that one before! I don't think that one was on the special edition DVD either!

No, that one was used for the VHS version and it was also the official theater poster. Same thing for TLK (I think)
They changed it for the DVD version, which is definitely worse...(and was one of the reasons behind the special edition petition)

I found this on the NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/11/movies/11alvin.html?ref=design... Even if there are people here aren't familiar with Balto or TLK (and you'd have to wonder why they're here), should come to note that he also did stuff for PoTC and LoTR as well as Harry Potter.

That's so sad, such great pieces of art he's done over the years of his life, that Balto poster on the bottom with Balto on top of a mountain is breathtaking. Sad to hear such a great artist has passed away and I'm glad to see all the other work he has done on so many projects, really inspiring work.

That's very sad. His style was unusual and seemed to make the actual films look more mysterious.

R.I.P, to meany deaths at the moment, i cant handle it. Anyway, it is sad to see him pass away, but, he was a true artist.
