i heard, that at the end of Lion King its was planned that the cub is u unknown, because disney hadnt made plans for a sequel yet, then the 6 stories were released with the cubs idenity as "Kopa" then disney decided to make a new lion king movie, someone in disney came up with Kiara because they didnt want the sequel to be too much like Lion King 1, so the 6 stories were recalled, so it wouldnt cause confusion, Kopa was removed from the story completely, if Disney wanted Kopa to have any significance to "Simba's Pride" there would be some hint/proof (excluding the 6 stories) that Kopa exsisted, im pretty sure that Kopa being kidnapped/killed by Zira is a fan fic that got too far, Disney doesnt kill characters that have a living significance in the movie, so for anyone that says Kopa was killed, children watch these movies, it is directly aimed for younger generations, (i think soccer moms would hav a fit if a baby lion cub was killed in a disney move< my opinion anyway) children wouldnt be able to catch that part of the story, infact anyone who isnt firmiliar with the 6 stories or Kopa would never think that he even exsisted at one time, thats what Disney aimed for when they recalled the 6 stories, because they changed it entirely, as it stands now, Kiara is an only cub, and it isnt suspicious to me that Simba is over protective of his daughter, no one should be suspicious by that, Kiara is just like him and he knows she'll easily get in the same trouble he did, and plus most fathers are like that with there daughters anyway. so the only place Kopa really exsists now is in the fan fics

Disney Artists, at the time of making the original Lion King laughingly named the cub at the end "Fluffy" with no intentions of a TLK 2. The stories The Lion King: 6 New Adventures then introduced Simba's cub to be named Kopa, a cub who loved stories.

Quote:
Kopa was originally the cub appearing at the end of The Lion King and the books based on the movie, but his appearance was retconned in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, being replaced by Kiara instead[citation needed]. As to now, there is no detailed explanation on him nor backstory. His main role is in Vulture Shock. He also had minor roles in other books of the set. According to the illustrations, he looks almost exactly like Simba as a cub, except for a small tuft of brown fur on his head. He is described as loving to hear stories.

In Vulture Shock, Kopa wishes to find his family tree, something he believes to be a real, living tree. Simba is busy and refuses to help him find it, so Kopa heads out alone and finds himself in a strange, barren land where is kidnapped to ransom by two hungry vultures wishing for some larger prey. Kopa is imprisoned at the top of a tree, but is comforted and befriended by a rapping group of vultures calling themselves the Buzzard Boyz. The Buzzard Boyz eventually lead Simba and Nala to Kopa, and Kopa is rescued.

Upon hearing that Lion King 2 would feature a female cub named Kiara, fans, not Disney, made many stories about what became of Kopa - the most well-known being that he was killed by Zira and that is how she was banished to the outlands.

Well, who knows? Maybe LK2 is set before Kopa, but then, what would happen to Kiara?
