I would like to see what Disney movies make your top list! (Feel free to add why you like that particular movie as well.)
Here are some of mine (I won't bore you with a super long list):
Beauty and the Beast: 1991 - The animation for this film was super, the songs were memorable, and the whole storyline was very creative in spite of the fact it was based on a fairy tale. (I think the lead animator for the Beast did a great job in creating what the character ought to look like. I wouldn't have it any other way.) The humor sprinkled in was just the right balance for the moody feel it had sometimes.
Lilo and Stitch: 2002 - An oddball sort of movie compaired to the classics, this movie seems to be one that you either love or hate (I am talking only about the first one, not any of the sequels). Personally, I like it a lot because it's different. #1: It's not about romance like many other Disney films, but about family. #2: Lilo is not the typical orphan, becase she's raised by her (non evil, fully related) older sister. #3: I liked seeing something about Hawaiian culture in general. The most you see in any movie about Hawaii and the culture is usually a mockery of hula dancing and the fact that it's a vacation place. In this movie you see it's more then some vacation spot. #4: Stitch is pretty cool looking for an alien.
Treasure Planet: 2002 - This one is more modern in it's feel, but I've got to say in my opinion that this may be one of the best adeptations that Disney has ever done! I love the fact that it's a SciFi version of the original book 'Treasure Island', with the weird alien crew and the mix of 1700's culture and technology reminicent of Star Wars. (Example: the ships look like ships from the 1600-1700's, but they sail in space, and the guns look like old fashioned guns, but they blast laser - or plasma, I'd have to rewatch it again to see). Dr. Doppler and Captain Amelia were cool anthro characters too.
Lady and the Tramp: 1955- This one is extremely well done! I liked the fact there were no computers used to help with the backgrounds or
anything! Real handy work like that must be admired. There's a lot I could say in favor of this movie, but I'm sure someone will have it in their list and have their own comments upon it.
Mulan: 1998- I think most will agree this movie is nothing short of epic, same as Bambi. However, Mulan has something that most Disney Movies do not: The main character (well, every character in this movie) is not white, nor even black. This is the first Disney movie to have an Aisan girl as the lead character. As an added bonus, this movie shows us what life was like for people in ancient China (something you don't see every day). The songs are pretty good and stick in your head once you listen to them (at least it does to me), and the animation style is very gracful and fluid. Mushu was a pretty cool sidekick too. Eddy Murphy was the best voice over choice for him!
All in all, I would have to say most of my favorite movies Disney made were from the 80's and the 90's until about the middle of this decade. I think that was when Disney was at it's peak, if you look at movies like Aladdin and the Lion King. Real care went into those movies, unlike some of the movies they have out now. (Chicken Little, anyone?
