Well people like to render. It is pretty fun. Some don't know how to make a siggie, why get mad at them for that? And rendering is still pretty creative.

So what? People's specialties are rendering. Good on them.

You're not really convincing anyone here. Well at least, not me.

I agree with you Cobalt. I like renders, they inspire me to render some screenshots from both Lion King and Balto. I feel that this topic shouldn't be here...

It depends on what you call rendering.
I, for myself, don't like to see screenshots recolored over : I don't call this creativity, sorry.
Creativity is mixing several pictures into one, adding effects, text, etc...
One day I will have to clean up the fan images section; when I wrote the rules, I hadn't thought that everyone would do this - I thought that they would really make some efforts and make beautiful things. But recoloring with Paint, without adding any shading, lightning or anything is horrible and uncreative.

Well I like renders when they're done properly, shading etc. makes them quite nice to look at but I am getting a bit sick of seeing render after render all over the place...it does get old after a while and most don't have shading, not even simple cell shading and it's a bit disappointing really, especially when they're only screenshots, much better if they're rendered and made into avatars and/or sigs with effects and such.

Eh.

Ultimately it depends on how well you render it in order to consider it creative or not. If it's just scribbled over and looks like crap (I'd give examples, but that'd be pretty rude XD) then not only is it an eyesore, but it's not creative at all. I personally don't approve of rendering at all, but IF you're going to do it, AT LEAST make it look nice. Don't color over the lines, add shading and color transitions..etc.

Sending rendered images here is against the rules anyway.

Well if I knew how to shade and all I would. And I'm sure alot of others dont know how to either.

I think that some of the renders shouldn't be allowed as they are cheaply and poorly done. Renders should be nice and clean, they should look very convincing. I know that people just start out and are learning and growing as artists but there is a difference between a render and some cheaply filled , 2 minute, paint bucket filled image.

Yes, such as this: http://baltosource.timduru.org/image/ro ... 82-30.html

And this: http://baltosource.timduru.org/image/sh ... 35-22.html

Yeah, does anybody see the difference between those two renders... the first... not so great... the second... very, very good!

I don’t usually post in the rant board but I will post my two cents here. I like to render images and for me personally they take time because I like to make them look good with normally a background made by me. Also I don’t render images on the backgrounds from the movies I render them and the create my own background for the picture and put my character in a different place/background, or just a black background with words. I don’t mind renders in peoples images galleries because I think it is a good way to show your character as they would appear in Balto Verse and also for others to be creative and have fun. Although some renders aren’t as good as others because people have to practice of course but I agree with Drew the ones that you can tell were made it a one minute job for the sake of doing one aren’t very creative where I know some people take pride and time in doing their renders.

Well, I'll admit it: The whole "screencap render" thing is nothin gmore than a fad.

However, there are a few (slight few, I might say from the looks of it) that are quite good. Heck, I only joined in on the whole rendering thing because I thought it was something new and different to try, so I did it. I never excepted to get so popular though, but I'm not as good as others (*coughCatcough* . . . sorry, allergies. LOL). I do spend hours (sometimes days even!) on each piece, so I know that there are some that do a half-***ed job on theirs.

I don't really see it as a problem, but people have to learn how to draw again. It's more creative than rendering, people!

I personally don't like the 'renders' that are pretty much recolors of screenshots - period. It's not creativity, as Steet said. In fact, it isn't even legal. I mean, if you find a recolor of Balto or Naruto or what have you on an art site - for instance DeviantArt - it's a reportable offense and you can be banned for it. It really doesn't matter if it is done well or not, it's just flat-out wrong. In other words, you could never claim a recolor as your own - even if you recolor it it's still the base property of the person who did it or the company it belongs to. The long and short of it - it's theft.
