Hi there Stone Paw,
I really don't understand why your getting so worked up about the smiley. :|
lots of people use it for different reasons and I don't see why it is a problem to you. :x
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think this topic should be banned for lots of reasons.

I kind of agree. Most of the time it is used sensibly, and it's good for showing that you mean no harm. But there are times when it's just used as a 'mask' for an insult, e.g:

I HATE YOU!!!!

I see what you mean. Well it doesn't annoy me that much, but yes, it isn't appropriate with the message they give. I don't think I will remove the smiley though, as it can be used for good reasons too.

I agree, I think that abusing that smiley in any sense of way is just annoying. Mainly after trying to prove someone wrong; it's odd to have someone wink at you after trying to say they're correct.. right? And anyways; another thing that annoys me about this smiley is the constant use of it after like, every word. It get's old after a while.. if it's breifly used then that's fine. This smiley does annoy me at times. I suppose it just depends on how it's used, but yeah I agree with ya.
(abusing any smiley gets old.. and annoying pretty fast heh.)

When I looked at the quote you put in, Stone, I personally saw it as sarcasm... Although it does not help anything, or negate the fact that the aforementioned comment was a flame, I still see it as sarcasm. I guess I never really thought that anyone would have thought of using it that way, but on the topic of people using it that way... well, to me it shows a lack of intelligence. I mean, seriously, it's like the scene in LOTR 2 when an army of 10,000 is assembled at a fortress, about to engage in epic battle. Someone from the fortress misfires an arrow, taking out one member of the opposing army. Obviously, that didn't do anything significant numerically. Same kind of principle applies here.

why the winky smiley was used in that quote you provided was to allow the person that it was written for them to know that the writer was being friendly about it, a friendly reminder. i see no point in how this is annoying and i accually use it lots, its my fave icon. 8)
