It had to happen one day, after all Universal was the only company to not have tried doing 3D with the animated films yet.
In fact this is not really new, but I didn't know about this until yesturday...
The film is named "The Tale of Despereaux". For more info, check this :

And, for the occasion, they hired an animation studio which is based in, guess where? The UK! And yes, if you don't know it, Amblimation was also located in the UK.

In fact, I was wrong about it being Universal's first 3D film...They have another one that is to be released this month (!) I can see that Universal is still really great with promoting animated films, because I have really NEVER heard about it.

But I must say this one looks absolutely stupid...

'The Tale of Despereaux' was an amazing book, but I never thought of it in a 3D sort of way before. I always thought it would look best in 2D, but I'll be looking forward to see what they do with it.

'The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything' is being made by Universal? I thought that Big Idea owned Veggie Tales, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

Well, I think that it's more "distributed by Universal" than "produced by Universal", as opposed to The tale of despereaux for which they seem to have hired a team to make it.

I agree with you that The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything is ridiculus, Steet. Even when I saw the trailer, it discoraged me from watching it. Well, I was never really intrested in the other veggietales, either. I'm surprised it sold $4 million!(or is that a below-average movie?) :?

The Tale of Desperaux was a good story (At least in the book). I hope they don't ruin it. I just didn't like the style the book was written in, but, of course, it's a movie, so they can't keep addressing the 'reader'.
I wonder how accurate it's going to be....

I read the book before seeing the movie, and I'm telling you, the book is much better. I mean, the movie was good, but it totally messed with the story! And what the heck was up with that guy made of friut? He wasn't in the book. And Cook was a GUY. In the book, Cook is a girl. AND ROSCURO (I don't think I spelled that right) IS NOT A SAILOR. And there are many other differences too. So if it was only a movie, it would be a good movie, but as things are...the book is way better.

The book is better, I haven't watched the movie yet, and i'm not sure if it would be worth the money.

just saw this movie lasst week.. really nice animation.. but the story was all over place.. might give the book a read..

the saddest thing about this movie was that the sneak peak for Curious George 2 was more interesting than this movie :(

That, I would like to see :) How's the animation quality of that DTV sequel? (wow, it's been a long time since an animation company has released one actually)

oh,well when I first saw the animation for it, I was like wow.. I thought would be in theaters (it's THAT good) but I guess it going straight-to-dvd this fall.. which is too bad.. because it wouid've given Princess and the Frog some competition in the 2-D department..

but anywho, the story is really simple, George finds a stray elephant named Kayla who was orignally living in a zoo ( I think) with her siblings.. then she was acquired by this Circus master (who's voiced by Tim curry).. I'm guessing Kayla got homesick and somehow left the circus.. now George and the Man in the Yellow Hat(Ted, I think) are taking the train to California to reunite Kayla with her family..

FYI: Elephants make lousy apartment guests.. ;)

I'd be really surprised if the animation was done by a different studio than the one who did the first film.. (but I'm too lazy to check :p)

another FYI: always make sure your cell-phone is charged when your'e going cross-country with a monkey and an elephant .. or going to need a lot of anti-depressants ;)
