Err... did you really have to post this three times? Once only is the general rule here.

Universal did a rather crap job at portraying them as very good friends, because now they sound and look a bit too friendly. However, they do bad jobs with animated movies in general anyway.

No, they are not gay. That was the work of some fanfiction authors, not the people who made the movie. If they were I think it would have been broadcasted a bit more plainly as such; Example being Kirby asking Kodi out for a date or something. And I think that since it was a rated G movie it has no intention of them being gay at all.
