Yes, my first rant, and I seriously hope it's my last. I need to get this out or I'll explode or something...

I've read a lot of conversations on the shoutbox and the rp box, where members keep talking about how this site's declining, breaking apart, losing it's quality, etc. etc. etc. That, however, is not the point. The point is, is that everyone who says that puts instant blame on the mods.

Um, News Flash: It's not! Good Lord... as if the fact that we simply do our jobs is a bad thing! We ban some people and it sure seems like every time we do, we either get hate spam in the banned box or the banned members send us petitions out their noses because they're whiny brats that want everything their way! And what's more, people believe those members who say we're bad people and they sign those petitions. Jesus Christ, we ban people because they do something wrong, OK? If we happen to make a mistake in the name or IP, then don't send us petitions, because we're freaking HUMAN! Just because we make mistakes doesn't mean we're suddenly evil people that ban for fun... Oh, and another thing I just love to find out about is that apparently some people, who I won't name, think they can get a rule removed by not following it incessantly. Another News Flash: That's not the way things work here! For instance, some people think that people constantly disobeying the rule in the RP box of "no non-roleplaying talk" is going to make us merge the regular with the RP, so they can do both on the same box. As much as that might be nice, breaking rules is not the answer. If anything, that's likely going to get both shoutboxes taken off of the main site. Oh, I'm sure you all would love that, right?

So, the point of all that being that if you think that the mods are making the site deteriorate, crumble, or whatever, you're looking at the wrong people. The people responsible for that are the members who disrespect the rules and spread their crazy, and if you ask me, utterly un-intelligent feelings about us to a bunch of other members, who in essence are trying to cause this site to self-destruct.

I'm unlocking this but only on the condition that whoever posts here will be reasonable and not be all nit-picky about it.

I agree. Almost everybody blames the Mods for stupid stuff! If there were no Mods. COULD YOU IMAGINE??? This would be a horrible place. Sure, maybe some of people hate Mods. But I think it's great because it wouldn't be as safe if we didn't have MODS.

I agree. You can have criticism about the way some things roll around here (as I have) and even voice it, but you have to stay reasonable.
I mean, seriously, the site crumbling and deteriorating because of the mods? First off, the site isn't crumbling. Par consequence, you can't blame the mods for something that isn't happening. As a matter of fact, the mods keep a generally tight ship: there are no flame wars worthy of that names, no profanities, little to no spamming or sms-talking, no arbitrary banning (for as far as I know),... And the number of active members is still steadily rising for as far as I can see.
Things aren't perfect - there are still some issues of communication, perception and openness - but there is really nothing that badly needs fixing, only a few things that can still be improved (which doesn't mean they are bad, mind you).
Criticism is a great thing, but for the love of whatever deity you adhere, stay reasonable.

ps: to all who seem to be creating "petitions", please do it on the forum in stead of annoying the mods with pm's. And remember, this isn't a democracy - you can suggest whatever you want, but it will never be binding. But that shouldn't stop you from suggesting, as that is the way to improve the site.

No,I don't see any reason why I should blame the Mods, all they're doing is what they're assigned to do.

I also think that people that are banded broke the rules once or several times. They don't just ban you cause they don't like you. I think that people treat MODS like bad people are just acting stupid. Either to get attention or to be stupid people! Presonally, I don't like how some people treat MODS.

I don't understand what you mean when you say 'blaming the mods'. Of course we are going to blame the mods for stuff that the mods do. Who else are we supposed to blame for their mistakes? The members of Balto Source? Steet? Who?

Yes, mods are 'only human', and they are allowed to make mistakes. And when somebody finally says something about a mod not doing his or her job, he or she gets flamed for it. I HAVE seen a mod yell at someone for mate talking but ignoring another who was also mate talking. It is unfair to both the members AND the other mods who are getting blamed for ones mistakes.

People who yell at mods for banning their friends are wrong. But people who yell at mods for being unfair [and I mean really unfair, like banning somebody for liking a certain genre of music, although that hasn't happened] are right to do so.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not pointing fingers at anyone and I'm not trying to bitch at the mods. But honestly, they need to stop thinking that everyone is out to get them and just own up to their mistakes.

I also think that it's idiotic when members get yelled at for using 3 RP words in the shout box. God forbid they use more then two! They can't even add a one-letter word such as 'a' or 'I' without getting in trouble. I know that Steet says two words, but jeez, I don't think he minds if somebody uses 3 or even 4. What's so wrong with -yawns and drinks juice-? It's not like we're RPing a whole story or anything.

My post is not directed at all mods. Most of them are completely fair, but in the rare case that they aren't, then members have every right to complain about it.

I'm aware mods make mistakes, and yes, you do have every right to put blame on them when they do. Just don't send us petitions out the wazoo if we do. What I was more getting at was people who blame the mods for supposedly making the site crumble, deteriorate, etc., etc.

And Believe me, I'm not a fan of that RP word limit, either. Unfortunately, I do not have the authority to change that rule. But, that's kinda beside the point here.

But don't get me wrong, you did bring up some valid points. I'm aware that mods have noticed someone do something wrong, but not noticed someone else who was also doing something wrong at the same time. It has happened, I will admit, but we do attempt to notice all who may be breaking rules at one time in a certain area, such as the RP box, for example.

This site, or any site for that matter, would be in disarray with moderators. If anything, we should thank them for their dedicated service.

It's good to have mods here, but there are some who are NOT nice to the others and break the rules and that's a good it's a good reason not to like them. And what do I mean? There are some who ignore some members specificly, talk about sex, Treat the others like they think they are better than them because they are mods. It ticks me off

Mods for one are not evil. Get that OUT of your head. Its not true. NO ONE acts like they are better so get that out too. I have never seen them ignore language like that and it would *not* be tolerated. What-so-ever. So that should stop. None of the mods break rules. They take their job VERY seriously. Its not "OK I banned one person time to go eat!" Sign off and do whatever. Thats not the way it works. They don't treat you like the others aren't good players? Pfft! Yeah right. They are simply busy. They don't say "Shoo little player! I am a mod your not worthy to be in my presence.'' Mods spend time on here to make sure we have a good game. Not some site where you come on and see inappropriate things. They have lives. Jobs. And maybe some of them have kids. So your saying they are evil because they help?
...
I don't get it. :?:

Now can we seriously say mods don't do their jobs? Can we? UH NO! They don't whisper to each other "Hey! Lets make the game miserable for gold kitty!" Now do they? UH NOPE!
Point is. Mods. Are. Not. Evil.

Sincerely,
WesternWonders
