I always wondered about this part: The plain and the sled dog team have reached White Mountain. Duke starts the engine, but looks at the sled dogs and stops the plain. The sled dogs leave. He starts getting ice off the wings of the plain, and says that he has to before he can fly. This of course shows that dogs can have less complicancies than planes since the ice needs to be cleaned off the wings and so on. But what puzzles me is the look he gives the dogs- pity... Maybe he wants to give them a head start? Or is that part just to show that machines are less able than live dogs?

I think it's both.
He clearly have pity for the dogs, and he shows it. (at the beginning of the race, he goes in circle to stay at the same level as the sled)
But maybe he also did that to avoid problems with the plane, especially because he knew that he had much advance.

Boris? hmmmm.... Well he crashed because of the weather- maybe if he had gone quicker (maybe he went slower for the dogs) he would have avoided the storm and crashing, but then he would have won.

Yeah, probably a bit of both. I don't think that he would have particularly liked to fly around with the danger of crashing coz of ice on the wings. :P But at the same time, it did look like he felt sorry for them, or wanted to give them a fair chance. :D

Hmm... for me the crash on the woods was..errhh Duke's fault, when he pulled Stick too hard and fast backwords it will rise plain too fast what usual cause stall.

and also in mountain area air is thiner and plane will drop down all the time, but in this case Duke stalled his plane what looks pretty much D.H.4 plane but diffrent model, I would swear that this model plane what he used was used in WW1

that was the off-topic.

Well for me he watched those dogs bit pitty and why he didn't do it before he started first time the engine? he was pitty I got to say that....

He started the engine when sled team arrived on town but then he stop the engine and started to clean wings what use was on that?....don't ask that from me....

Aha, so I WASN'T the only one that noticed that!!

Yeah, not that I think Duke wouldn't care about the race so much as to let the dogs win on purpose, but I think that he thought that he wanted to at least make the dogs THINK like they had a chance in winning. I sensed a bit of pity as well as disappointment in Duke's face. However, it was an expression that didn't last long enough for me to think that Duke was trying to let the sdogs win on purpose.

I thought it was pity for the dogs at first but when he said he had to get the ice off the wings it seemed pretty reasonable to me so i assumed i was wrong and he didn't pity the dogs.

A little bit of both. I think he stopped the plane because of ice, but but it is clear he feels sorry for them
