I hate those topics.
I don't feel like elaborating at the moment, so I will later.

Flare wrote: These types of topics: favorite or top artists are really starting to piss me off! I mean, don't you ever stop to think that you might be hurting somebody else's feelings who like to draw? Like me....I love to draw but why do people on pick the 'Main' artists instead of the least favorite? I mean give us a chance in the spotlight? these topice SHOULD stop, before somebody starts a flam war and I dont want that to happen. I am free to rant, but this really makes me mad! Well, there is a system that provides popular artists the spotlight, which I, indeed, find a bit differentiating. However, most of these artists are very skilled, and have worked hard to reach where they are at this date. Now, I am not saying that people not on that list are not skilled, but if you work hard enough to improve your skills even further, you might end up on that list too. Anyhow; socalled "popular" artists are chosen by the community which we live in (i.e BaltoSource), thus we are not able to eliminate this differentiating. Not only that, you also need to grab the attention of the other members. Popularity is earned, and since it's in our nature to either be popular, be fans of something/someone, or none of those mentioned beforehand, we simply have to live with it. I do agree, however, that excessive topics (like "omg, [random member] is the most popular member on BS, and if you don't like her/him/it you should go die in a fire!11!!!1one") is very VERY annoying, not to mention immature and against the website rules. The more sensible topics are also quite a bit annoying, but I'd rather not care about it so much. I neither draw, nor compose music, so I wouldn't know much about it anyway. Popularity isn't everything, and you just have to advertise a bit for yourself to reach the top Who knows; maybe you'll become popular one day?

If I may point out, nobody is really willing to move on from these "popular" artists, which is the whole problem. They may see something and go "oh that's nice" and continue their fanism of others. How can we grab attention from others if they're too focused on their favourites? This is the problem, nobody's willing enough anymore to check things out, they'll only click links if it's from these favourites and the others become unmentioned. I had to wait a whole month to get some sort of results for a "what fanfic comes next" thread and despite my advertising I got no real useful results. Keep in mind I posted that link every opportunity I got in the SB yet nobody bothered to click it. So who are we to be blamed?

You know what really annoys me? When people complain about not being noticed.
You have to remember that the 'popular' artists on BaltoSource/The Lion King Source have art that captures the eye. This may be a strange style of shading, or just a different type of style. Their lines might be really flowy, which can attract someone to their art. Now I'm NOT saying that lesser-known artists have bad art. Lesser-known artists have wonderful art, art that I can say that I love. It just takes time to get noticed.
I don't feel as though it helps to constantly PM a person over and over, telling them to look at their creations. It actually edges me away from liking them. I think that's the same with a lot of others, but then again, I could be wrong.
I usually check the front page, and if something catches my eye, then I'll click the picture and check out the rest of their gallery. If I like what I see, I'll fave them [I won't always comment, but I'm sure to fave]. Not speaking for the world, but I'm usually attracted to:
a] Simple, yet strangley interesting pictures/styles b] Emotional/Meaningful poses c] Complex character designs [yes, I'm attracted to their designs XD] d] ''Sparkly'' images [Flashy, vibrant, bright, etc...]
I do look at the artists who don't have those things, but I do feel as though I'm attracted to those things. Other people are attracted to other things in the field of artwork, and the things that they look for just may not be in the style of the picture that someone else draws.
Life's unfair, you just have to deal with it. Popularity takes time. Your art will not be recognized right away. My gallery took some time to be recognized too. Just have fun with drawing. It's only a few people's opinions that you're basing the favorites on. The world won't end if your gallery isn't ''popular'' enough.
I try not to pay attention to popularity. It really helps. You have way more fun in life if you don't bother trying to be 'popular'.
Sorry if that didn't make sense, I'm really tired XD

Sorry if that didn't make sense, I'm really tired XD I was never complaining about my own art and I highly doubt nobody else here was in the first place. I'm saying this for everyone else that deserves SOME sort of recognition, because they try and try and try, and nothing happens. It's simply disrespectful to ignore them. They wait, and they wait, and they wait. Nothing happens. I'm tired of this, it makes me want to leave actually, and then everyone swarms on them and tells them things like "it takes time", "it takes practice". They've patiently waited and worked their friggin butts off, and they don't get anywhere. It's not the artist's attitude - it's the audience's. Sure, some artists do it for fun, while some are more serious and prefer to do it for recognition. That doesn't make them selfish. Just because they whine about not having enough favourites doesn't mean they're greedy - it means they expected their work to get more favs, but they didn't get them. Honestly, the way you put it makes you sound like we're a bunch of sillies complaining about ourselves.

Yes, that is unfair, I agree with that. People who've worked a really long time to improve on their art, yet don't get recognized isn't very fair. I'm really sorry, though, if my post sounded rude. I really didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings D:

Maybe you're trying to appeal to the wrong audience here. If you haven't already, you should try using some other site (i.e. Fanart-Central.net or deviantart) to advertise your creations. Really, you ought to go back and rethink your motives if the reason you're drawing/writing/whatever is to gain attention by saying to their faces, "Hey!! Please check out my art!!" (Or worse... "Hey, your art looks so awesome!! Why don't you come to my gallery and comment on mine?!"). Yes, indeed, it's a cruel world. So consider yourself lucky if anyone notices you at all -- with or without you asking them to do so. S.T.A.R., dood -- Stop, Think, Act, and React. I don't know how to say thins without sounding rude, but did you ever stop to think maybe art just isn't your thing? Or maybe it is, but you have MUCHO improvement to do? There are other mediums of expression, you know. And about these 'popular' people...why don't you actually try to learn from them instead of just trying to put them down? Eh...? Give it a try sometime. Hey....this got me wondering...how come no one rants about the top AUTHORS? Heh heh, see? You don't hear anyone complaining about that. So honestly, why is art such a big deal?
