i can reccomend a few things for you togo. first off, the E6750 is a great choice, its cheaper than just about everything else. i dont reccomend that motherboard though. i know a few people who have had it die. i recommend this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059 and the memory.... go with a good, well respected brand name. i would go with this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145590 and the power supply... total ick. never go with a cheapo psu. only go with brands like, OCZ, Corsair, Enermax, and a few others. for most any application, i reccomend this psu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194003 the 8800GT is a good choice too. go with BFG, XFX, or PNY though

My computer is nothing special.
I'd take it this is what I want to be looking at:

Compaq
Microsoft XP Home

Compaq Presario
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3200+
1.99 GHz, 1.18 GB of RAM

togo, if you are willing to shell out the dough then.. I would reccomend this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128064 As for latencies not being important, i dont know where you heard that, but Latencies are just as- if not more so- important than ever. now that memory is reaching ever higher speeds, the latencies have gone ever higher. the low-end DDR3 has timings of CL9. Many applications and games favor low latencies over Bandwith. Beleive me, my parents computer came with 2GB of Hynix DDR667 @ 6-6-6-25. i replaced it with OCZ DDR2 667 @ 4-4-4-14 and the performance increase was astounding. truly amazing. i dont reccomend that memory because it overclocks, but because it is from one of the best memory makers out there. Not to mention, DDR2 is dirt cheap now. That is one of the cheapest DDR2 kits available in 2GB.

EDIT>> Now that AMD Phenom has hit the shelves, and the benchmark tables.... it still cannot outperform the C2D clock for clock. and it doesnt have a hope against Intels Yorkfield Core. I have seen the benchmarks, and though AMD has narrowed the gap quite a bit, it still cannot compete on terms of Highest performance.

Mine is 4 years old (yes, I bought it around the time I saw Balto for the first time, and made the site around 6 months later)

Athlon XP 2000+
768 MB DDR (256 originally)
80 and 160 GB seagate hard drives
Geforce4 MX 440 64MB
17" cathodic screen (well I have also a 32" HD ready TV now, so I'm sticking with it...)
LG DVD recorder

I was considering buying a new one, but I think I'm going to stick with this one for longer. I'm not among the ones to spend money only to have new things which aren't that necessary. And mine is still working very well and is enough for what I'm doing (I'm not playing recent games, and I only do some internet and programmation on it, as well as watching movies in streaming to my TV) Some recent games still work though, I'm playing Sam & max season 1 on it and it's working perfect...
