I joined this site about a year ago because:

1) I really like Balto and TLK movies
2) I'm a fan of animal cartoons
3) Because I LOVE wolves and wolfdogs


Now, I know this is silly of me...but I was under the impression that other folks joined because they love wolves too. Well, I've come to the conclusion that I was wrong.

I can't tell you how many posts I've seen on this site about how much a lot of you HATE wolves/wolfdogs and how you LOVE to hunt them just for the sake of killing a wolf.


Now, here's my question: WHY ON EARTH DID YOU JOIN A SITE DEDICATED TO WOLVES AND WOLFDOGS IS YOU WANT SO BAD TO DESTROY THEM FOR NO REASON!?!?!?!?

In all honesty; you're disgusting. Putrid, vile, foul....I can understand shooting at one because it's on your ranch (one has to protect their property) but just to kill them because you don't like them?

I'm gonna bring up a certain someone in particular who; no matter how many times people have asked them why; their answer for wanting to shoot wolves is always avoided by simply "Wolfdogs are fine, but wolves...."

What does THAT mean? It means you don't have an excuse; you just want the pleasure of killing something you hate for no reason.

And this person isn't the only one out there. There are several people who have such a hatred for wolves...and they don't even know WHY they hate them. Heck, I don't like lions, but you don't see me posting everywhere "I wanna shoot lions because they don't look like my cat, Mr. Fluffy...." or something stupid like that.

Folks, if you're gonna join a site dedicted to a certain breed or species, please make sure you at least have RESPECT for the creature. I'm not saying you HAVE to love wolves...but for pity's sake, don't join a wolf-site if you intend on spreading hate about them to people who actually like them. All you're doing is infuriating the people around you. We have enough stress in our lives. If you hate wolves; fine. Keep it to yourself, because WE don't wanna hear it.

Sad but true.

I highly doubt people should be on this site if they "Hate Balto" Or ogs/wolfs. But however it's there freedom of choice whether they hunt wolves or not, and this rant won't stop them. I am prediting that there may be a flame war... Espeshily with the person you quoted from if they read that. Anyway, I joined this site mainly because I likes Balto.. But as long as people as Least like the movie. If you "Hate balto" Then I see no point of joining.

I know it won't stop them...but at least it'll shed some light on folks who really don't belong here.

And I agree; as with most of my topics (they are very touchy topics), it'll probably be locked due to a flame war. I hit hard with sensitive issues, and people don't like that. (And because they don't like it, they get my topic locked by first INDUCING a flame war).

I agree. I mean, it's someone's own choice if they hate/want to hunt wolves, and no-one should try and question that. But they don't have to yell in our faces ALL the time.
But this isn't a wolf forum. It's a Balto forum, and for wolves and dogs, cartoon or real.

Same thing with Balto. If you prefer The Lion King, that's fine, half of the site is LK of course. But I'm surprised at the amount of people posting saying that they hate Balto. I always thought that Steet originally made this site to attract more Balto fans, not haters.

That's not entirely true, I think you should take the surroundings into account.
Coming here and voicing anti-wolf opinions is a bit like walking into "Goldstein's Deli" with a Hezbollah-flag (after all, isn't a deli all about the food, just like this site is about Balto/TLK...). Neither is a smart move, and although not forbidden, should both be discouraged.

did people really post [here] that they hated Balto?

I do like Lion King better than Balto, but I called myself "loves_Balto" not "loves_Lionking" because when I first joined, I thought this board was a Balto board, not a Balto-AND-LK board. are you allowed to change your name?

I both agree and disagree with this rant.

First of all, this website was originally made for the Cartoon Balto, the wolf-dog, and seeing as wolfdog is mentioned many times here, just googling "Wolf" may send some people our way. This leads to an influx of wolf-enthusiasts, whom also finds an interest in the Balto franchise, thus getting Balto more fans. (After all, Balto is a cult-movie)
Anyway, when steet made TLKSource, he was hoping for (though I don't know the real reasons. Want to recieve a confirm on this) TLK fans to come to the website, and hit the link to BaltoSource on that very same page, thus coming to BS and maybe become interested in Balto too, and that would lead to even more fans, because the TLK fan statistics tells us that there are approx. 3 times more TLK fans than Balto fans.

A bit more back to the topic; my above words means that, of course, most people of BaltoSource are wolf-enthusiasts, and yes, people surfing these forums, yelling "I has gunz! Pheer my leet wolf-killing skillz0rz!11!oneeleven" (exaggerated, of course ) shouldn't be doing that, and personally I'd prefer them to either A) leave the forums, or B) pulling themselves together and stop yelling it in nearly every post.
However, we all have our opinions of this, and for some it may seem okay, but others might think otherwise. And surely, opinions are fine, but seriously... if you are under the delusion that you can hunt whatever you want in unlimited aumonts, you are wrong. There is absolutely no way you can hunt what you want, and especially not unlimited.
Even more reassuring; even if a person who wants to kill wolves -would- get a license for them, he/she would still only be allowed to shoot a maximum of two or three wolves, -unless- it is self-defence, and can be proven it was. I know for a fact, that people have (at least in my country) recieved a sentence of half a year in prison, for shooting a wolf too much, or killing a wolf to protect one's farmstock (yes, these are farmers protecting their animals), because there are only about 2000 wolves in Norway.

I am not too sure about the rest of the world, but all of you wolf-enthusiasts can rest assured that extremist wolf-hunters will be punished in some way.

You are very right, Togo. This website is -not- dedicated to wolves, but was originally mainly dedicated to Balto, the wolfdog, until somebody managed to convince steet to change it to what it is today (I have to admit, I put in some suggestions too).

So I can understand why people have gotten this misconception, though.

I disagree. Although this site was conceived and is in theory still a Balto-fansite, in practice it has undergone an evolution to a site that is refuge to a large wolf-fan community. From what I'm seeing here, being against wolf-hunting has become a custom on this site and as such a part of the site's identity; there is more to a site than what can be read in it's statutes. Anyone who goes against the before mentioned custom in a tactless, uncompromising and brazen way shouldn't expect much sympathy.
So taking all that into account, although I agree with the observation, I don't see how it is wrong to "want wolves haters to shut up even if this site is NOT dedicated to wolves". It makes good sense.

and of course if they do hunt wolves they would get arested
