Agreed. Steele is quite easy to hate - he's arrogant, selfish and is willing to let the children die just so no-one knows that he was defeated by a wolfdog. But if he wasn't in the film then the film would not have so much conflict. Steele's the dog you love to hate. He's great because he's such a brilliant villain.
People can hate Steele, Aleu, Stella etc because it's their opinion. But they all have their place in the films.

Oh I know what you mean XD Why do people hate such good villains? I personally hate good guys. Not like Balto and stuff, cuz he has his flaws. Its characters like Weed and all that other bullcrap, where they're so GOOD that I hate. They never have flaws and they're always right (according to the program) and they always teach the bad guy a lesson and they always get the girl. Blasphemy, I say! Where's the fun? NO WHERE!
But I also must say, I think Hades from Disney's Hercules was better than Steele XD But as far as "normal" villains (as opposed to magical ones) go, Steele is pretty darn cool. He was wicked, funny, bamf, egocentric, and in some cases insane. Not the smartest dog in the world, but hey. Love him XD

Hating a character for being evil... Liking a character for being a good villain...
Same difference. In other words, hating him is the same thing as appreciating his role in the movie.
I hate Steele's personality. I like him as a villain.

You have a good point, cat. The best protagonists are usually the flawed characters who learn a moral at the end.

I really agree with this. The good boy never wins in real life (or rarely), this gives a wrong lessons to the children. But this helps to make them think that they have to be good during their life, and this is a positive thing after all. In other words, it's better to leave kids with the "illusion" that good comes out on top in the end? Nuh-uh. "Nice guys finish last" may seem to work in the short run, but it doesn't work in the end. It didn't work for Hitler, it didn't work for Hussein... you getting my point? On another note to cat, "blasphemy"? I'll check the dictionary, but I don't think the meaning of the word blasphemy has anything to do with this. But if you can't stand the good guys winning, that must be why you (and so far, only you) seem to think my stories are so boring.

So, since he's greedy, arrogant, and selfish, we should like him? Those are undesirable traits. It's possible to hate a fantasy character and still think they're awesome at the role they play. I hate him.

But if you can't stand the good guys winning, that must be why you (and so far, only you) seem to think my stories are so boring. Thank you for reminding me that words have more than one meaning. But yeah, Togo, its a good idea, but no kid is perfect. I think only saying they should be like the goody-goody character would lower their self esteem LOL. Besides, goody-goody kids get the pulp beaten out of them in school. By kids like Steele Then it teaches them self-defense, and oh I can go on. But anyway, I didn't say I can't stand good guys winning. I said Quote: Its characters like Weed ... where they're so GOOD that I hate. Too good characters I hate. They're unreal cuz they're too "perfect" you know? Even made up stuff needs a sense of realism. That's why Steele make such a good character. Some people let fame and glory get to their heads, sometimes to the point where it gets dangerous. And I don't think it's fair to the character to hate him just cuz he's a villain. If he was like Niju or something, I can understand. But no, Steele's a well-thought out, yet unpredictable character. And I think even bad guys need a little lovin XD I have more to say but I gotta go EDIT: As I was saying. When people (well, most people) create a character, good or bad, they want him/her to be liked by other people. Why would someone make a character just for it be to hated? That's like giving birth to a child just so you have something to abuse. Its like just cuz they made Steele the villain or any villain for that matter, it doesn't mean they're necessarily there to hate XD Like my character Kita, she's the supposed "bad guy" and she hates Kiona, who I love. But I still love Kita.
